conflicting sources - hydrated lime

In my book, Psilocybin mushroom handbook, hydrated lime is essentially a synonym of calcium carbonate.- CaCO3
However, on Mycosupply.com, hydrated lime is described as calcium hydroxide - (CaOH)? - is that chemical name correct?
Anyway, am I reading something wrong? Also, if both crushed oyster shell and hydrated lime are calcium carbonate...if the book is correct?...which is a more commonly used/versatile source of the mineral?
Thanks, M

There are chemical compounds that are equivalent to calcium carbonate in terms of use in cultivation for its ph effect as an additive. Calcium Hydroxide is one of these compounds.

Is it possible to use ground up chalk? As it is made of calcium carbonate. I have been wondering this for a while now.

Hey man, how are ya? Well, you can basically use one or the other. With calcium carbonate, it tends to be a little longer lasting and if you accidentally use too much of it, it's not really gonna be a big deal. On the other hand, if you were to use too much lime, you may run into some real problems. Hydrated lime is fast acting and cause a swing in the pH level very fast. I'm not sure why there is a difference from what your book says and what the ingredients say.

See if these help explain it any better. I'm still pretty new, so I'm tryin to learn all this stuff as well. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.
Looks like the true cal carbonate(crushed oyster shell) is going to be a safer router

What Different Casing Layer Ingredients Are There https://www.shroomery.org/5219/What-different-casing-layer-ingredients-are-there
"Limestone flour (Calcium carbonate, CaCO3, chalk (NOT blackboard chalk!) Acts as a buffer agent in the casing formulation, rises the pH. Depending on the initial pH of the casing mix, 10 -20 vol% of limestone flour should be used. Limestone is the buffer agent used by the most cultivators. Also used as feed supplement for cows and horses."
This is from the Casing section in the growing mushrooms area. I just read this before you posted wanting to know if you could use chalk. You can read this to get further clarification, but it says not to use black board chalk. Hope this helps!

without reading all those links
from what Ive read
hydrated lime to get the casing to 7.5 ph
and
calcium carbonate to keep it there for repeated flushes
