Read the rules, you need to post the spore print color, habitat, etc, if you expect us to ID it for you.

1) Amanita thiersii 2) Laetiporus 3) Lactarius 4) Suillus

Thanks subbedhunter.
Oh yeah.. rules heehee
1. A. thiersii. didn't collect any but it's pretty straight forward.
2. Grifola frondosa. Didn't collect these either, they need more time to mature.
3. Clitocybe is my guess..... I was hoping they were some kind of little Lactarius but they didn't produce secretions. More importantly they have smooth spores. It's really cool looking under the scope. I've been using a new technique for viewing basidia/cystidia where you just fold a single layer of lamellae tissue in half. It works like a charm in most cases and beats trying to take thin slices.... of course this won't work with brittle genera.
4. Gyrodon merulioides. Spores were brownish with an olive tinge. Eccentrically to almost laterally stipitate. Growing beneath ash trees, there were about 45 fruitbodies in a 15 foot radius. I haven't eaten this species before, the don't seem very appetizing, their scent is something like turnips.

Nice hens, can't believe alan called them chickens - pshh. I think that might be his first mistake ever! I have a giant oak tree in my front yard that sprouted hens-aplenty last fall. I'm a bit worried about our severe drought though. Saw some hens in a neighbor's yard in June which I thought was a bit strange.
Great pics georgeM. Wish I could fly out there and hunt with you. I can imagine the conversation with my wife, 'well, we're not going to go to the beach or the mountains this year for our vacation.' 'ohh, are we going to europe or somewhere exciting?' 'Kind of, we're going to... Kansas! we're going to hunt mushrooms with georgeM. Honey? wait, honey. don't throw that. ouch!'

Coon: I had to look up sheep's head, didn't know what it referred to. Man, almost kinda gross sounding... yeah i didn't harvest them as they need to grow a bit, it was only about the size of a sheep's heart... or approximately the size of an adult sheep's hoof clinched in a fist...
I suspect this year will be the best Maitake harvest ever, only because persistent scouting was conducted last year and the locations of several highly productive trees were noted. The dehydrator will be working over time.
Xmush: In all fairness to the shroomery mushroom identification robot Alan Rockefeller, Grifola frondosa is rare in the west, at least according to Arora and Kuo.
Seeing them in June is really weird, perhaps it was a new species. Grifola aestivalxmushii... you missed your chance to become a splitter!!!
Maybe your wife would will change her tune regarding the flat lands of Kansas after I get the pool and guest house constructed. Sweeten the deal by giving her a bouquet of Gymnopus or some other equally boring species of woodland fungus. Or give her a plasmodial myxomycete, nothing quite beats a slime mold on a stick for saying "I just love you so darn much deary".
Am I right or am I right ladies?

Far from it - It is at least my fourth ID mistake here, not including hundreds of mistakes that no one called me on.

Yes, they are almost nonexistant out here. One of the main reasons I frequent this forum is to learn about mushroom species from other areas.
