Any Suggestions for these Fruitcakes?

Here's my fruiting chamber, any tips? (B+ strain)
It's kept at room temp and hit with flourescent light 12/12. The duct-tape covered portion of the top has about 5 quarter-sized holes in it for gas release. Once or twice a day I let fresh air in there and mist until the whole inside of the chamber and the cakes are covered in super-tiny beads of water...I try to keep them thoroughly moist but never soggy. I have small slits cut all over the bottoms of the substrate bags for excess water drainage (just in case).
The small bag is a 1 lb. grain bag that was mixed with so much damn verm that I wanna see what happens before I add a casing layer. The larger bag is a 2 lb. grain bag with popcorn that is evenly cased with about 1/3" straight verm. This flush is about 3 days into it for both bags.
QUESTION: The larger bag has had a few flushes already through it, and I get good yields from it, but it only fruits off the sides of the cake! This flush is the first time I've had 1 pin come off almost near the top flat surface. I do have foil on the sides.... Am I doin somethin wrong??
The Aquarium, in the back of a closet.

The two cakes in the chamber

From my limited reading I thought we weren't supposed to directly spray cakes, even if it is really small water droplets? **Shrug*

I don't spray directly, I spray about a foot above the aquarium with the top off and let it all settle on the cakes and everywhere else.

Your FAE must be pretty low. I'd try to increase that.

I agree...def increase your FAE. Are these cakes or casings? You said cakes a couple of times but keep talking about doing a casing layer and they don't look like cakes??? What are you relying on for RH? Just spraying and/or the moisture from your cake/casing? RH may be too low. What are you doing to gauge it? I would add a casing layer to the one w/ no mushrooms and initiate fruiting! Fruit away....good luck

I guess they would be casings?...they are both mycobags that I cut the tops off of, but only one has a casing layer. They both are being fruited right now, thats my fruiting chamber in the pics.
I can't imagine the humidity would be too low, even though I have no accurate way of gauging it the substrates are always moist and you can feel how thick/damp the air is when I go to mist. As far as FAE goes....should I try to open the lid and let fresh air in more??? Getting time to mess with it twice a day is usually a stretch, but I'll try to open it up a little more. Thanks, Bof

As long as you can open the lid and use something to fan some fresh air in there you should be ok. good luck!

Alright I wanna try casing with a mix for the first time on my other bags that are almost done colonizing as well as that 1lb bag you see in the pic (all grain bags with B+)...I've searched on here as usual but was overwhelmed with info about casing.
If I were to mix something with my Verm to case with a 50/50 mix should I use peat moss or coir? Also if anyone wants to save me some searching tomorrow...peat can be found at the gardening section and coir is more of a pet store item correct?
From what I gather peat is used to fluff up the casing mixture and coir is more of an actual substrate additive....
Any help is appreciated....Bof

You can also use the Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil found almost everywhere.

I've always heard soil is not kosher unless it's an out side grow. Also wouldn't that serve the same purpose as the Verm...to hold moisture?
Thanks, Bof

MGMC isn't typical "soil" (as it's generally referred to). It's mostly peat, coir, and some other moisture-retaining substances. It's ph is suitable out-of-bag, but still should be pasteurized/sterilized.

nice seems like everything I need is in that package, I haven't heard of that stuff before on here.
If you've used Miracle Grow before do you rec. I mix it 50/50 with my verm?
Forgive all the noob questions, I just don't have the time/privacy to "experiment" with different casings...(I wish I did). Thanks, Bof

You could mix it with vermiculite if you wanted but it's not necessary. Just mix it right out of the bag up to field capacity with water (I just use tap) and either pasteurize or sterilize it.

Some verm can help "fluff" it up a bit but isn't necessary. You can also add gypsum but if you don't have it don't stress over it. The MGMC will work fine all on its own. Some people use it straight from the bag but I think you can't hurt anything by pasteurizing it. Better safe than sorry.

Good deal! Any reason it'd be a bad idea to case the 1lb substrate in the pic thats already been in fruiting conditions for a few days? Looks good but no pins yet, might as well case that one. Thanks for all the good advice, Bof

I'd give it a good rinse first. That can help wash away contams that will be on the surface so you don't trap them between the layers and give them a good environment to grow.

Not just reposting to bump...but this miracle-grow MC shit SEEMS like its too good to be true as far as availability and the contents go. Just picked up an 8Qt. bag for 5 bucks yesterday...the contents read: sphagnum peat moss, forest compost, coir pith fiber, perlite, and a wetting agent.
I just cased 1/3" with the Moisture Control mixed with a little verm to lighten it up (mix was pretty dense), and a day later the two grain-subs are already starting to colonize up over the casing. We'll see how this stuff works in comparison to no casing and 100% verm casing, and if I get anything good i'll share the results.
