Okay, i really wanna use coffee with my rye when soaking for 36 hours... this last time i used 10 cups rye, 1gallon water, 1 gallon coffee, 1 tbl gypsum... well, i have been told i used to much coffee.. but that is what was said in roger rabbits rye tek. but maybe that tek is a bit old and some updates may have come up...
so my last batch did not work for me i am going to start another batch tonight.. so anyone who uses coffee with grains please give me some info...
i was thinking of using half gallon coffee to 1.5 gallons water or maybe two gallons water half gallon coffee? or if that is too much maybe go with 4oz coffee to 2 gallon water?

Use 1/2 normal drinking strength at most. It should look somewhat like tea, where you can see into it. You can use less of course, or none at all. The coffee will give a boost though. RR

It's the water you soak/boil the grains in. Use at least four times as much water as rye. Make sure you've properly rinsed first. RR

okay roger your confusing me now... in your rye tek it says to soak the rye in 50% water and 50% coffee.. so if i use 10 cups of rye, 1 gallon water wouldnt i use 1 gallon coffee???? cause that is what i did this round that i messed up..
My gallon of coffee was actually 2-12 cup pots of coffee or two pots of coffee.. someone else had told me they use 1 cup of coffee or 8oz of coffee for there soak.. what do you do roger?

roger can you check out my reply from last night about how much coffee to add to the rye and water for the soak??? i understand what ya mean by how stong to make the coffee but i am still confused on what amount of coffee to add to the rye and water...
are you trying to tell me that if i add 1 gallon of water i should add 1 gallon of weak coffee (the kind that looks like tea)or is that overkill? should i use 1 8oz cup of coffee per 1 gallon of water cause if thats the case then i will up the 1 gallon of water to two gallons of water .. thanks roger sorry to be a pain on this one but i wanna get it right..

He means to make weak coffee and soak the rye in it. By weak he means half normal strength (or 50% water/50% regular strength coffee).
The coffee IS the water you soak/boil in.

As said, just soak in weak coffee. There is no exact recipe that must be followed, but if you make the soak water too strong with coffee, it will slow down colonization. RR

In general, would you make coffee twice? Once for the soak, then drain and rinse? (Would you rinse?) and then prep the coffee again for boiling the grain in?

RINSE YOUR RYE
PUT RYE IN POT OF WATER
POUR COFFEE INTO POT.
DO NOT PUT MORE COFFEE THAN YOU PUT WATER
that is all.

no, one time is enough.
boil in clear tap water.
adding gypsum to soaking water or boiling water is a further option.
