Hopefully, it keeps the commercial pickers out of the forests. So many of them rip out everything they find, destroying the beds. I've caught them with rakes, ruining the moss to look for pins. RR

Such disrespect someone who's interest in fungi is only for economical reasons should have no place in the forest. I wonder why there is a drop in supply for the Matsutake when assholes like this run around destroying the mycelium of Matsutake. When he threw down that Matsutake it made me wish that spends the rest of his life this unhappy.

I agree, I mean, how selfish can you be? Why not give away those mushrooms to someone who could have used them? He acts like it's all about him. He never made it past the Physiological level on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Here's an idea? Pick a mushroom that is going for some cash and learn to grow them yourself.

This guy could have made $60.000 A season maybe even $100.000 and a picker $200.00 A day maybe $1.000 A day. Not Any more. Is it corporate GREED ?. isn't is why we don't like Wall-Mart ?

Logging destroys more mushroom mycelium. I have seen forests that produce millions in mushrooms. That get logged for 1/2 of what the mycelium produces.

sounded like he was pissed at japan or w/e for dropping their prices to 30 cents.
im guessing japan found a way to grow them mushrooms indoors, which would be the only reason a mushrooms price would drop to 30 cents.
im wondering if they found a new place to send their lead.

He explained why in the later video's. It was because the first flush that came this year was infested with flies/poor crop. The Japanese got wind of this, and didn't want to pay much for the mushrooms. The second flush came around and they were beautiful mushrooms yet the Japanese still didn't want to pay much for them. Also - the middlemen decided to make more money by paying pickers less because they could get away with it.

Anything more than $30-45/lb retail is absolutely ridiculous. That's how much he wants pickers to get! Too much incentive for people to go out and fuck up some good shroom habitat. Too much incentive to rip up moss and move on to the next patch before replacing the moss back where they found it.
Yes greed is definitely a problem here and it definitely doesn't exist on only one side of the fence.

I didnt know all that about the cartel, the article is a good read. I agree the price is a bit ridicules and to expect that all the time isnt very realistic, but I can also see the fellow's point about the price dropping to $1 a lb when they are still selling for $100 a lb in japan.
Seems like a lot of greed on the part of the Cartel as well.

Yes I agree that it does however I have ment plenty of loggers that just so happen to be commericial pickers as well. Big suprise that both groups seek to exploit and in the end destroy the environment. Regardless of whether there are greater evils out there his attitude in regards to mushrooms is without excuse lower prices or not. I would consider his actions akin to buffalo hunters in the plains in the 1800s.

I don't think so this hard work(Chain Saws)carrying, making adjustments, repairing, fueling, cleaning, safety equipment. And keep informed on all actions maintaing prompt communications on safety. A logger could find a mushroom for him self. But not have the time for what would take to make $2.00 for mushrooms.
