Never a good idea when fighting someone who knows what they're doing and won't just close their eyes and throw up their hands.
if youre referring to martial arts and kickboxing and shit, i dont know anybody who actually uses the techniques they learned in a real street fight.
weapons & power in numbers > kung fu
That's because people with a real skill in martial arts usually won't be caught dead in a street fight (Assault with a deadly weapon anybody?).
But if I'm fighting someone, and they start going apeshit, I will absolutely go straight for a take-down and break their shoulder or elbow joint.
Otherwise I'll let the fight go how it will.

youre better off going with the latter, and not betting that they will move always move in the vulnerable position you want them to.
i mean trained fighting is an art, it is strategized and taught in sequence and proper form, but "impromptu" fighting is a mess that usually involves drunkards throwing bottles, bricks against the head, keys & fingernails going in the eye, hair/clothes getting ripped to shreds...

Yeah but the new generation of martial artists don't train one style like Karate or Tae Kwon Do any more where they only know how to react to certain situations.
We've done training sessions that could basically be called "101 ways to incapacitate a drunk guy" all kinds of different moves to vital areas you can perform from any position. I'd never use any of course unless I felt my life was threatened, and some guy going apeshit on me trying to fight me would qualify in my mind.

Fuck all that martial arts shit. Makes me laugh when someone says he would go for the spinning knee kick in to a guillotine choke or something. I just know if would fuck him up so bad. In a real fight you get punched in your fucking face before you even know what happened. After that its all a brawl.

Nobody would try some kind of spinning leg kick in a fight, but chokes of all kinds are pretty much the most effective way to end a fight period.
Many many many of the techniques we practice are applicable in real life situations, and some aren't. I mean shit I'm learning Capoeira but there's no way you'd catch me pulling cartwheels and windmill kicks in a real fight, but sure as hell a hip toss or an arm drag into a position where I can break your arm at the shoulder is a very viable possibility.

I'm a dirty fighter. I've choked people by the adams apple, kneed people in the groin, chokeslammed a guy littler than me into a desk, thrown [fairly heavy] rocks at eyes, taken someone by the hair and slammed their head into various places, ripped off a dude's glasses so I could whoop him easier, etc. I haven't been in a fight in years, thank goodness. I've only lost one: I was blindsided by a big simoan guy with a class ring (or something similar). Knocked my two front teeth out and choked me until I was just seeing white. Luckily his friend pulled him off of me while alerting him to the fact that "he's gonna die dude, cut it out". I didn't even know the guy, or say anything to him! Crazy simoans.
jonny, there is no such thing as a dirty fight, IMO. if you want a clean fight, get into boxing or MMA. if its a street fight, there are no rules. dont let anyone fool you into thinking differently. if you are a decent human being then chances are, you are not the aggressor, which means you probably did not want to fight in the first place. you end that fight as quickly as possible. the most effective fighting systems in the world use "dirty" tactics. why? because a fight is not a boxing match.
one thing i used to do in school when kids would force me into a fight is kick my shoe off and into their face(i always wore my shoes loose) and it was ususally over in a punch or two.

are you kidding me? then you dont know anyone who truly knows martial arts or boxing or kickboxing, or any fighting style for that matter. anyone who knows their shit absolutely use what they have learned, they just dont use any of the forms or bullshit in a fight. no trained fighter drops all learned technique in a street fight to "wing it" and see what happens......

i was in a fight a year ago this november...i was goin to indiana university and some friends and i went to purdue to watch the
IU vs PU football game...
i fought some purdue guy because he was wasted and just walked into the appartment we were visiting and knocked over the beer pong table...it was really fun to fight i thought....i hadnt been in a fight since i was little and it was actually pretty fun to just waste somebody and not give a complete fuck..haha...
i really try to stay away from violence though...that was sooo random and the settings were perfect...it just all happend really fast and was over even faster....i dont plan on getting in any more fights, but if somethin happens i will do it.

exactly. i have been in martial arts for years, ive done a few different styles, and now im really starting to cross train and combine everything ive learned.
crystal doesnt know what shes talking about. you go ahead and throw a bottle or a brick at a trained martial artist. you had better hope you catch him when he isnt looking, and you run away before he realizes who did it.
she has one thing right, it is an art, but it is a very functional art. yes there are forms and pleasantries, however they are all for refining speed, strength, technique and forming moves that can be done almost invuluntarily after time.

a true martial artist doesnt attempt intricate moves. they attempt to defeat you with as few moves as possible. i laugh at those guys too. because they are usually pompous douchebags who got into martial arts for all the wrong reasons, they saw a hollywood movie and shit their pants in excitement.
fuck a roundhouse or any of that shit. you stay tight, and you wait for them to move first. a smart MA will always let you move first. it gives them a good idea as to how you function. any MA master will tell you to keep your skill hidden deep inside until you know how the enemy functions, and then end the fight. personally im a firm believer in pressure points and momentum.

I've been in about 5 or so soild one on one fights in my whole life but they always occur without my assertivness. its the other guy that has always wanted to fight me. I lost on of them but i won the other 4, that i recall. Im not a very big guy 5'10 around 150ish so i usually dont try to provoke fights, im actually for the most part passive. I wont go and jump some people because i just think thats bitch, and cowardly. and i wont just go fight some guys because they were "talking shit man". If there just runing their mouth over dumb shit and/or it doesnt have shit to do with me im not gonna go to that level.
If i feel threatned or I feel the need to put someone on their place with violence, tehn i go all out! i dont half ass for shit. It takes ALOT for me to get pissed of to the point of fighting, but when i snap, I FUCKIN SNAP. and i almost loose control of myself.
