Why was this contam hiding?????
    #7447768 - 09/24/07 01:48 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

i had 6 jars out a month ago right now i have 2 left due to the mean green (i have learned my lesson now very sterile) anyway one cake did absolutely nothing for the last month. it had no contam, no mycelium, just nothin. So last night i reinoculated jar in a separate location along with a separate needle which will never be used again.....but this morning when i got up it has a dime size of green right there. i know it was their the whole time but why was it hiding?????? cant be slow growth my other 3 are gone now but completely green. does this contam only attack mycelium??? if not then why cant it just take over substrate??

it could have been either...

a - purely coincidental
b - the process of reinoculation triggered it's fruiting cycle and if finally sporulated.

...either way, you were right on one account, it was definitely "already in there" based on the turn-around time you stated.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
