I'll add that I have recently picked up a copy of 2001. I'm only about 5o pgs or so in, but so far it is extraordinary writing. You get a better feeling for the Obilisk that is shown in the opening/closing scenes (its actually cogniscent) I Having seen the Movie a few times, these 'new scenes' in the book expalin a few things that were left to the imigination

If you enjoyed the Movie, I reccomend the book. Clark is an award winning author, and has the ability to 'fortell' technological advances, in the style of J. Verne.
