Should we attempt to educate Americans about other cultures and civilizations...

...or just take the media at its word and follow suit?
-------------------- My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. All very fun until your neighbor sees you. -The Joekenorer

well Americans are a small fraction of the net population of the Earth
if Americans stay narrow-minded and biased without acknowledging other nations as counterparts to this world well then America will soon face its downfall

Education turns to brainwashing if it isn't honest. Should we be honest about all things national and international? Yeah.

go for it...
become a teacher
-------------------- "If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley GIVE ME OPIATES OR GIVE ME DEATH

Everything and everybody is biased though. Honesty is in the eye of the beholder for certain things.

No, everybody is told to think that by people who don't care about their own irresponsible behavior, and assume other must be just like them, and so everybody convinces everybody to no longer keep their behaviour in check.
It's not true that everybody is biased, that's a big deception.

history is kind of like a list of mistakes that we should learn to avoid
or a list of successes that we should strive for
so if you're thinking that we should educate Americans about other cultures we should keep in mind that American culture affects almost every other civilization out there including our movies, fast food restaurants, and even our Constitution (Japan has one)
what we should do is educate people about history unbiased, factual history history of our interactions with other cultures of other cultures' actions with each other everything just clean, unpolluted history

Personally I don't think such a thing exists. Ive always felt that history is usually written by the 'winners'. Other whys I can't explain why the word nazi is a derogatory statement without applying my own morals.

I, as an American, would love to learn more about other cultures in the world.
I also think that other countries might like to know about ours. I don't think we are always honestly depicted just as so many countries aren't honestly depicted to us.

Would we be able to accept the criticism?

Some yes and some no. I find it even hard to talk about Americans as a whole because there are so many different kinds of us. With a wide range of politics/beliefs.
