questionable humidity tech for poor man
    #7444892 - 09/23/07 05:27 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

hello im weedhed420smoke my friend dvs01 and i were brainstorming an easy way to boost humidity and maintain a relative humidity level of 98-100 percent humidity without using a hygrometer, i have a hygrometer but weeks before getting it i used the coffee cup method, thats what i call it. when i got my hygrometer i seen that this method along with the damp perlite method kept my FC warm and always 99 to 100 percent humidity, so if you dont have a hygrometer at the moment or are investing in one heres what you do,

1. Get a small coffee cup or 8 ounce styrofoam cup with a coffee cup lid like you get in the store or buy.
2. Run your water till its hot not scolding just hot
3. Lid it and open the little flap on the coffee cups plastic lid
4. DONT put it in a place where it can spill and make sure your terrarium has the room for it, I use it in a medium clear rubbermaid tupperware container. coolers would be fine too.
5. Change the water every day, i live in a place with realy clean water filtration and one of my faucets has a pur system, so if you know your communities water supply could be very contammed use warmed up poland spring.

Along with fanning a couple of times a day keeping some holes at the bottom of your FC so the perlite can breathe and release some co2, keeping atmost 2 inches of damp perlite depending on FC size and just place the hot water in the terrarium close and voila humidity is always high. And remember change the water everyday stagnet water get skunky.

peace out and happy growing.

Open water is a really underrated tek, and the height of simplicity.

People will scream contams, but the are irrelevant floating below your substrate.

Try open water on the bottom of a tub, then with cloned material identical to that tub, case another with perlite, compare.

Everyone will get mad, watch, but try it, there is no distinguishable difference.

seeing how you're a quoting kind of person Captain, here's a post
for you to read: Read Me
another

so if you remove the perlite all together and have just standing
water, would this effect not change?
would standing water alone not reduce the humidity in the chamber?

does it actually properly humidify a chamber with high fae?
