Do antipsychotic drugs augment mushroom highs?

I was doing a random google search of the parasympathetic nervous system and happened upon this tantalizing piece:
Psilocybin induces schizophrenia-like psychosis in humans via a serotonin-2 agonist action.
Cognitive Neuroscience
Neuroreport. 9(17):3897-3902, December 1, 1998. Vollenweider, Franz X. 1,3; Vollenweider-Scherpenhuyzen, Margreet F. I. 2; Babler, Andreas 1; Vogel, Helen 1; Hell, Daniel 1 Abstract: PSILOCYBIN, an indoleamine hallucinogen, produces a psychosis-like syndrome in humans that resembles first episodes of schizophrenia. In healthy human volunteers, the psychotomimetic effects of psilocybin were blocked dose-dependently by the serotonin-2A antagonist ketanserin or the atypical antipsychotic risperidone, but were increased by the dopamine antagonist and typical antipsychotic haloperidol. These data are consistent with animal studies and provide the first evidence in humans that psilocybin-induced psychosis is due to serotonin-2A receptor activation, independently of dopamine stimulation. Thus, serotonin-2A overactivity may be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and serotonin-2A antagonism may contribute to therapeutic effects of antipsychotics.

Has anyone heard of anyone taking the unlikely combo of haloperidol and shrooms? It just so happens that my brother is schizophrenic, and so inevitably has some halos lying around his room - I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I took one of them. I've taken halo by itself once before just to see what an anti-fun drug would be like, and it was pretty shitty, so I'm apprehensive to take it with shrooms. So basically, yay or ney on doing that? And even, has anyone heard anything about this?

My friend reports very positive results when taking a Daily Vitamin and a Wellbutrin just before ingesting cubies with chocolate milk as a chaser.

That's pretty interesting, considering that I have ADD and so get prescribed concerta, a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. However, haloperidol is a dopamine antagonist, something that dulls the effects of dopamine, whereas wellbutrin (and concerta) are dopamnine enhancers. I don't know why anyone would have had the thought to take with mushrooms a drug that would actually make you feel hungover from opium or something, like halo, but it's a report of just that sort of experience that I'm looking for.

be weary of haloperidol--wouldn't want to have a severe dystonic reaction (parkinson's-like symptoms) during a mushroom trip!

A sound suggestion, but as long as I take the same dose I took last time, the same dose my brother "takes" I should be fine for the time, as mushrooms don't inhibit dopamine in anyway. I'm starting to think that no one has had this idea before, or at least, no one was stupid enough to try it?

i think it only works with MAOI's. the shroomery dose calculator asks if you take them, and when it says you do, it lowers the does depending on what stage trip you want to have.

It's not likely.
Take a look at the actual paper. Haloperidol only increased one of the outcome measures (AIA) and decreased all others.

Thanks for the advise. I didn't read the actual paper because I assumed I'd have to pay to sign up for the full article privileges <(^^ <) go me. I'll be sure to do that, thanks again.

You'll have to be at a university or otherwise have a subscription.
*I just checked erowid however, and it's available there. I don't understand how they're allowed to do that *shrug*.

So I just read the article and want to quell any thoughts I may have sprung that haloperidol and mushrooms would make for a great trip. Basically, the article said halo would lessen the effects of
"The first subscale, OSE (oceanic boundlessness), [which] measures derealization and depersonalization phenomena associated with a positive basic mood ranging from heightened feelings to sublime happiness, grandiosity, and alterations in the sense of time and space."
It would have no effect on
"The second subscale, VUS (visionary restructuralization), [which] assesses illusions, (pseudo-) hallucinations, synaesthetic phenomena, and changes in the meaning of various percepts."
And actually increase what crappy parts of mushroom highs, the anxieties and such in the way of
"The third subscale AIA (dread of ego-dissolution), [which] measures thought disorder, anxious ego-disintegration, loss of control over body and thought, and derealization phenomena associated with arousal and anxiety."
In conclusion, I won't be trying the anti-psychotic-mushroom hybrid, and neither should you.
