HEy,
Im new as you can probably tell by my post count. I was looking through the strain thread and read that cubensis likes straw and dung. Im planning to grow my mush on rice flour. will they just grow better on straw and dung or does it really matter what i use? I was also thinking of using a couple of different substrate types at once. If say i had a straw and dung substrate with a rice cake in the same terrarium would that pose any problems? Also what would happen if i made a straw and rice/dung substrate? I have read all kinds of grow guides but i just wanted to throw a few more questions out there because i want to stretch my mind. I was wondering about this strain called colorado i ordered from Rlphstaeaerspoeerees. Has anyone heard of this strain. One more thing its been about 2 1/2 weeks since i ordered from the previously mentioned place, has anyone ever had troble ordering from their? It came recommended so i figure that it is legit, maybe just taking a little while to arrive.

Rice flour is the classic beginner substrate. It works, is usually cakey and dense (which could be a downside), some say its likely to harbor contam spores, but many think that its not as useful as other media:
rye grain: a v good jar medium b/c you can shake them up and distribute the mycelium faster
dung: very rich medium, ppl seem v happy with the results
straw: readily available in large amounts for BULK TEK grows (which you wouldn't want to do with rice flour). Straw/dung mixes are classic for making a nice big bed of mycelium.
**There are better things to make cakes out of than straw, its the wrong consistancy and the individual bits that stick out are a wick for contamination to take hold.
Sry, don't know anything about that company or strain. Remember, its easy to give any strain a name, so it doesn't necessarily imply quality. Once you're up and running, you could make yourself trademark Wardley's Fish Food strain
-------------------- follow the move that leads off the chessboard...
