same species different colors?

I just can't seem to get the hang of this, can mushys be the same species but two different colors? I find patches and they vay in color but all have the exact same characteristics, are they different or the same? How can i tell if what i found is active if it looks so different from all the pictures i see...

Absolutely. Especially if it has a hygrophanous cap.

The same patch of Russula can have both red and white capped fruits.

Post some good pictures here. Also let us know the spore print color, that won't change as often.

you'll get the hang of it over time.... some people pick it up quicker than others, but i think it is very much dependent on how much time you spend on mushrooms.

There are no rules in this area, only generalizations.
