Autumn Fast

I don't know how many of you are into fasting, but I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow in celebration of the autumnal equinox. I've read that you should fast at the beginning of fall as a way to balance your bodily energies (or dosha, as Ayurveda terms it) and to "let go" and prepare for rebirth in the spring.
I'm going to consume only herbal tea, distilled water with lemon, and a "cleansing soup" made from ginger root, cilantro, green onions, and olive oil. The length of the fast will be 2 days. I'll probably be avoiding pot, as it's an appetite stimulant: nothing worse than having the munchies during a fast!
I've fasted before and it was pretty harsh. Parts were good, but mostly my stomach felt like it was eating itself and I was cranky and miserable for the most part. I'm gonna do yoga, meditate, and take cleansing baths with Epsom salt, among other things, but I was just wondering what other suggestions you guys might have. I guess what it boils down to is that I'm fishing for encouragement, lol.
Tell me about your experiences with fasting!

the 1st day i usu have that stomach-eating-itself feeling, but try n just drink plenty of water to keep me full. So i guess my suggestion is keep drinking as much as you can, and try to keep your mind off of it by doing all those activities you were talking about hope that helps, and good luck w your fast!!

I'm ok, really.

The harsh feeling you get from fasting is from your body throwing off the toxins. If you can make it past day 3, that's when it quits being miserable and you actually feel light and wonderful. You're not really hungry anymore, but still, you think about eating, 'cause it's so much fun.

Thanks for the advice, guys! Very good points, indeed.
I'm only going to be fasting for 2 days (48 hours), during which time I'll be consuming water, lemon water, soup (just water, lemon, olive oil, ginger root, cilantro, cayenne; not eating the solids), and herbal tea. I'm doing the fast as a way to cleanse my body before going into other phases of my "healthy lifestyle" change, which are as follows:
1. Cut out all foods I'm sensitive to: wheat, milk, yeast, coconut, egg whites, yogurt, gluten, etc. Increase exercise and physical activity. (Permanent) 2. 2-day fast 3. Increased supplementation with quality vitamins/minerals (Permanent) 4. Anti-yeast regimen (to combat yeast overgrowth, a problem that's plagued me for years in the form of yeast infections, fatigue, allergies, etc.) 5. Detox regimen (antioxidants like green tea, liquid zeolite, lemon juice, Epsom salt baths, etc.)
I have Asperger's syndrome and also a few bowel issues that run in the family. I feel I'm not absorbing nutrients and often eat things that I know I'm sensitive to (been tested for food allergies). On top of that, I'm very, very picky, which is a common autistic trait (never tasted a piece of fruit in my life, among other things). I am tired most of the time despite being young and in "seemingly good health" according to all the drs. I've seen about my health issues. All doctors do for me is offer prescription meds like Provigil for the fatigue (which didn't work), do expensive tests I can't afford and that don't tell me anything, and tell me I need psychiatric meds for things like menstrual cramps, which also don't work. I thought it best to do the research myself and construct a plan that could help me get my health back on track, especially because I write for a health website and don't wanna be a hypocrite, lol.
Anyway, thanks again for the info everybody. I'll be very cautious and stop the fast if I feel weak, dizzy, or too terribly bad, although I realize I won't be feeling like jumping for joy during the thing. I guess it comes down to being able to listen to your body and know what's cause for alarm and what's not. I wish a doctor could help me feel better, but I have no insurance and have already wasted so much money on them to no avail.

How many fasts have you been through and/or supervised in your life that has led you to this truth?
And not to sound like an ass, although certain statements and questions seemingly cannot help but to come off wrong on the internet I have found, but...
Liquid diets are VERY, let me repeat, VERY dangerous.
I have had friends who have done "fasts" and let themselves have beer or soda pop. Maybe Campbells soup here or there, it's bad.
One needs to fast on either water or FRESH juices and broths that are full of life, or else just eat.
It's the "No man's land" where the body must keep it's digestion process up and running as it's being given foods that it must process, liquid or not, and yet is not receiving enough nutrition to fuel said fast.
True fasting is great!! Rejuvenating, healthy and amazing when done correctly.
Problem is, most folks can't commit to what is needed and seemingly, from all that I have studied, observed and been through countless times personally, DO somewhat hurt themselves on their "fasts".
Yet another powerful and sadly misunderstood tool that can be used for enlightenment that usually ends up messed up.
Take care all.
