XBox 360 modification questions.

Good morning you hard chargers! I been searching all over the Internet to find a simple way to flash the firmware on my Xbox 360 DVD drive and it seems pretty involved. My question is a simple one.
Is there a way to flash/update the firmware without having to go through the whole SATA cable and PC route? Now I know I need a PC to download the firmware and upload into a USB drive, but is there a way to install a device that simplifies this process?
Also, does anyone have a link to the iXtreme 1.2 firmware version? I've looked all over the net and cannot log into the Xbins FTP site for some reason.
I've read all the guides for the modding, namely the guide from 360mods.net, but just felt that I may be in over my head. Thanks in advance for any help folks.
Take care.
Wronguy
P.S. Anyone actually do the modification themselves? I would certainly consider paying someone to do this if their trustworthy.

xbox-scene.com may be able to help. beware though, there is still lots of debate as to whether this can get your live account banned.

I can flash/jtag/repair 360's, pm for details.

I was banned a few months back....but still, I dont mind. Having an entire library of titles for that system outweighs paying for them and having xboxlive.
Give it hell.

I am aware of the potential to get my Live account banned, but I don't play online. Doesn't anyone have personal experience with this?

I've been checking out this blaster 360 mod it seems pretty easy to set up. I'm thinking about picking it up.

I'm still just beginning my research on 360 mods so I have no idea how involved any of this is but the blaster seems like its fairly straight forward.

i remember when these mod chips actually said what they did.
for example, the older mod chips for ps1 and ps2 stated "play backups without a bootdisk / etc."
none of these new chips mention anything about playing backups, or loading ISOs. Just mention moving save files to a hard drive... who cares? Do any of these allow you to play an ISO? I wish they would just state it like they used to!

I'm pretty sure they can't for legality reasons I think a lot of the mod chip makers got in pretty big trouble. I know they aren't allowed to sell anything on ebay that is a "mod chip" any more. I think they must play ISO's or I don't see why any one would buy them... It would be nice to have better info on what they do though, I guess I need to do some more searching.

after some more research, you are correct. They do the same stuff, but now it's called "flashing" the drive. Of course, it's just overwriting the FLASH memory in the system, which removes copy protection.
Unfort. there isn;t a way to load .ISO files on the 360 - have to burn patched ISOs to DL-DVDs.
