coir for starting cacti seeds

anyone used it?? maybe cover with a layer of sand???
I havent tried sand before but I read on here that it is bad for cacti?????

Probably works but I don't believe well.
The kind I use is way too "fluffy" the seeds wouldn't stay on the surface.

u can start your seeds in any medium really... coir, sand, perlite, etc... so long as its not so coarse as the seeds will end up too deep...
but with those type of mediums that contain zero nutrient, u would have to transplant before they get very old...
basically good for short term, but not long term use...

personally id just stick with cactus mix, add some perlite in, and a thin layer of sand on top...

If it ain't broke take it apart and see how it works  :cool:

  yeah I always use pro mix soil with hydro nutes anyways and I have read that the coir is actually good. you don't need to sterilize it either. 
  I am thinking coir with a layer of sand to fill in the cracks then put down seeds with another layer of sand over the top.


  I am gonna give it a try and post my results :thumbup:
  maybe make up a cacti seed coir tek :wink:

Yeah all I do with my cacti seeds is mix about 50/50 sand and coir.
