It's always taken me at least 6 days to see something. Although the glasses I use are bigger then half pint, if that makes a difference.

With 72 it will just take a little longer, like 7 or 8 days.

If looking for a cheap way to heat them you can fill a big jar with water and use a fish tank heater in it. Then put that in a ice chest or ice cooler the picnic type. jars on one end and water jar with heater set for the right temp on the other end.
This isn't the prime way to heat jars but it works in a pinch.

Get either an aquarium heating pad or a seedling heating pad if you can afford it. Those work great.

Just put the shoe box some place warmer. Behind your TV, atop your computer tower, in the utility closet where your Furnace/Hot water heater lives, above your stove or refrigerator, or even in the attic. Just a few suggestions sorry if you can't apply any of them for whatever reasons. Be sure to check temps before hand - nothing above 84. Think along that path and you may come up with something. I wouldn't put to much concern on it though 72 isn't going to slow them down much once they get going. It can take well over a week for germination so just try not to look at them more than a few times a week.

heating pads are ok but using them to heat jars isn't a good idea in my opinion, i used to do that and the constant use always made them go out, fish tank heater in a glass of water will last alot longer

do you live where it is warm or cool outside?
you can set your house to be about 75 or so.
i'm a super newb but temperature doesn't seem too important, sometimes i had mine in low 70s, sometimes 80s...... they colonized eventually though i had to flip them.
you ought to see some growth in the next few days.

ya some people do that, like if there are uncolonized pieces on your cake, you can just kind of brush them off with your recently washed hands, i wouldn't go as far as scraping any verm off with a butter knife or anything...i personaly dont' flip brf jars if they stall on the bottom and the rest is done i just take them out cut off the bottom with a clean knife then crumble up the colonized part and case it.

theres no right way as far as i know, some ppl will unscrew the lid and flip it over so the cake sits on the verm layer and the lid and some ppl take it off or it comes off when you dunk and roll it. are you doing cakes or casing?
