Heads up UK

Found my first liberty caps of the season today - in Wales, quite high altitude. They're still not out in force though (took 3 hrs ish to find 80). Anyone else had any luck?
Annoying that i don't have a camera - some really big, and lots of the weird 'albino' ones (anyone know what's up with that?)

Do you judtstumble across them or have you been told picking spots.
I've been searching fields for years but never found more than 15 in a season...

Well I knew where to go this year (back to the same spots as last year), but i found those by searching every day for about 2 weeks last summer. luckily it was a good year and they appeared early, otherwise i would've given up i think. it's general knowledge to most of the locals that we live in a shroom growing area though, that's how i found out in the first place. there was a big free party/rave culture here about 10 years back (so gutted i missed out on that...)

Naw, they are a sporeless variety. Ps. cubensis does this too sometimes. Usually at the beginning or end of season, likely due to imperfect fruiting conditions.

Go to the cultivation section and search up 'sterile', 'sporeless' or 'white gills'

pilzepilze has an extensive gallery of sporeless semis... However, I cannot connect to the site right now...
YESSUP had some awesome photos of the sporeless cubensis, but has deleted all of his photos.
On my other computer i have most of these photos saved.

On a side note, I myself have found Stropharia and Hypholoma species in the bay area with sterile or sporeless lamelle at the end of the mushroom season. I've seen this with S. aurantiaca, S. riparia, and H. fasciculare.

they grow at all altitudes... just they appear at high altitude first... and the type of pasture land they prefer tends to be hilly territory...

^ very true. I find that pasture land grazed by sheep tends to be the best.... it's not very pleasant picking in and around cowshit anyway. haha.
Nice to see a few familiar (uk) names knocking about on the boards again.
uarewotueat came home empty handed?! that is not very encouraging cz he definately knows what he is doing! I've been gagging to get out there for a couple of wks but i can relax a little now that i know i havent missed out on much just yet.
ill give it a couple more weeks i reckon.... when i can hear the moors calling.

Shouldn't the subject say 'heads down UK'? Anyway, should be a great several days coming up. Autumn is here indeed. Headed to Epping forest to camp for 2 nights this weekend. Fruiting bodies should be abundant! We're not counting on finding libs or cyans, but definitely gyms, Fly agarics and pantherinas. Plus some good edibles to grill up of course. Ok, off to gather some Galerina mutabilis for dinner later...
