I want you all to meet our newest family member. This little guy was in need of a home, and we'd been thinking about getting a friend for our first cat... so we couldn't say no. We're still in the naming process. Feel free to make suggestions!

Yeah, we've definitely been thinking down the M road because of the mark.

Morty came to mind.

Mario's not bad, but I am having trouble not picturing a small italian plumber...

Also, it doesn't nick-name well... you gotta name pets with names that can be cut down to one or two syllables really easily...

I always liked Marius, from Anne Rice's Vampire Chonicles

"I celebrate the Earth, my home, my mother, my grave, and as long as men are Man they must, if they would preserve the integrated being, do the same---[and preserve]--this rank casual hungry smelly sweaty lusting transitory body, my oozy pulpy liquid-bag-swollen body, bones, blood, hair glands, my bejeweled sex; I love and celebrate it all.  never to let men forget that they are animals as much as gods---that is one thing I shall say."

Some good names coming in... thanks everyone! Giving us some good food for thought.

Liz: He does have some leaky eyes... he seems perfectly fine otherwise though. Maybe allergies? heh.

He's got a vet appointment on monday evening, so we'll ask about it. If they recommend eye drops I will take you up on it.

Mortimer is close to what we were thinking with Morty... it would be short for Mortimus, which is a character developed by the shroomery's very own MOTH..

I am suspecting you mean Mercutio, from Romeo and Juliet?

This is a cute choice, and definitely one of my favorite characters from that play.

Not sure what we'd call him for short though.. with a hard C it would be "Merky", with a soft C it would be "mercy"...

Hmmm!

It's still up in the air!

Yogi came to mind recently.

Keep in mind it doesn't HAVE to start with an M

Yeah, eye leakies are usually the 1st sign of an upper respiratory infection unfortunately - did you introduce him to Jelly already?  I only ask because it's pretty contagious :frown:

If they offer you eye drops there take them - they're cheap at the vet and they have prescription stuff that's better than the stuff I have

How about something to go with your nickname? Like calypso or scuba ?(would probably end up as scooby) Marine biology would be too much of a mouthful.

Hahaha...

You guys and dolls kick ass. These suggestions are great.

We are thinking maybe "Yogi" at this point, but certainly have not settled yet. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em.

Mercutio is good too.

Lavod: I looked up Marbas and discovered it only to be another spelling for the demon Barbas, who I am assuming you are referencing? He's really a sweet kitten, despite everyone thinking he's evil. He is depicted as a great lion that, under the conjurer's request, changes shape into a man." I liked that part though.

Apolly: Mr Milks is damn cute, but did you know cats are usually lactose intolerant? Heh. Except for mother's milk of course.

Zorbs: Morte is close to Morty/Mortimus which we were already consideirng... is it pronounced different? Like a long "A" sound at the end instead of an "E" sound?

Mushbaby: Calypso is pretty cute. We could call him "Cally" for short.

Definitely considering some of these!

-

Also, after a good laugh last night, we strongly considered "Oatmeal!"

It's a Frosty The Snowman reference, for those who don't catch it...

You mean playfully and adorably mozy across, right?

I have a cheap Casio keyboard! I'm not sure Mozart would be willing to play on such junk though. I do intend to get a real piano when I have the room for it.

Cheap Casio keyboards are the beesknees! I think they are coming back in style, or at least the beautifully cheesy sounds they can produce are. I'm sure Mozy would be delighted to create some neat techno.

Hah..

reminds me of a song by Soul Coughing... not sure of the name, but the "hook" in it is something like "The people's republic of CASIO TONE!"

Electric? What kind? You can be specific, I'm a musician!

How did you get over "fear" of singin' in front of people? I mean, I can do jackass type stunts in public, but I get self-conscience when I feel like singin'. Is there a trick, or should I stop being a pussy;-)

I play acoustic and sing. I'm a songwriter at heart, and I do my best to match up with my vocals and playing.

As far as playing in front of others is concerned, I have some really supportive friends who encourage me a lot. I play in front of them most of the time.

I am still self-conscious about playing in front of my family members and complete strangers. I introduce people to my music slowly, usually one at a time. People who actually listen well make a good audience and I can let go and perform well. I have trouble playing around people who don't know how to pay attention.

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled two weeks ago, and my voice has improved a good bit from the removal of a lot of jaw tension, so I am strongly considering hitting some open mic nights soon.

Probably won't be til after I pick up one of those Bose L1 towers though... I hear it's a great solution for both a P.A. system AND monitoring yourself through the same system, so it seems pretty win-win.

As far as confidence goes, it just comes with time and devlopment. Look into spirituality and meditation... I find confidence has less to do with singing and more to do with how grounded I am.

--

BTW, feel free to PM me if you wanna chat music more.

Also: if I recall correctly, you're in CT right? Ever get up to MA? We should chill sometime... I've got some shroomerite friends nearby who I'm sure would be down for a meet up.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I'd be more inclined to sing in front of complete strangers than my friends and family. In fact, I get most self-conscious around my friends and family. My friends are really weird; In some ways they are stubbornly critical.

I'm a songwriter at heart, as well. I don't care too much about complexity, technical skill, ect...as long as it is a nice song, a heartfelt song, I have deep admiration for it. I am not too good at writing lyrics unless they are funny:-(

I totally understand the not paying attention part. Story of my life! Most of my friends stop listening mid-sentence, mostly because I have stuff to say, not just another comment on a sparkly video game. That's why I talk to cool cats like you, on here.

You sound like a real music appreciator. I'll send you a copy of whatever I record next if you wanna listen.

I would send you an older recording, but I'm so self-critical that I never have any confidence in something I didn't JUST record... :P

you sir, are an idiot. My cat is named after Tybalt, Juliet's cousin in Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt's title is "Prince of Cats". Seriously, you have got to be stupid to not know this, considering it's Shakespeare's most famous and commercialized play. I mean, there's even a Romeo and Juliet movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, so any 14 year old girl knows the correct spelling of Tybalt, so you attempting to correct me is probably the most ironic thing I've seen in my entire life. I suggest you refer to your baby sister's DVD collection next time you try to act like a presumptuous asshole.

oh, and if you can't find your hello kitty PJs to wear to a Leo Dicarpio-thon slumber party, check out these handy links:
