Poo discussion
    #7440307 - 09/22/07 12:05 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Ok,
i live in the carolinas and it's not too hard to obtain horse poo and straw, but i'm wondering how to go about this
is horsepoo straight from the feild alright?, like often they step in it and all that, what am i looking for in my hpoo? lolz

also it would be alot easier for me to get cow poo than horse poo, i have easy access to a cow farm, but most of the places that keep horses around here are a bit harder to get to

exspecially since trespassers can be shot without question around here:eek:

cow manure is less desirable since if you get it too wet it turns to mud....click my link for horse manure that you should strive to get.

google it.

As for getting shot, just ask the guys if you can collect it. Just say it's for a garden. might be a little out of season, but it's a perfectly normal request.

when searching for horse manure you want a few things,

1 - Aged, rock hard & sun dried
2 - free from other mushrooms & molds

aged manure is mainly what you are looking for... about a week or older is good stuff. you don't want fresh slimey shit cuz you will have to leach the manure of urine yourself and then dry it all on a tarp. if you have to soak the fresh manure in a tub of water for 1 day and then pour of the water and dry the manure on a tarp.

second... free of mushrooms and mold. cobweb mold is a big one too look out for as well as green, grays, and black molds. stay away from anything with mold. mushrooms already colonizing the manure will be usless to you as it's already in use by mother nature.

i dont know digital, it was a bitch for me to find it..just order dried manure from mushy mart,
well, i dont measure, seems pointless but thats just me
i mix up mostly hpoo, straw, coir, and a little bit of coffee
pasturize
also, firefang is a fungus that aids mycelium fighting off contams and survives pasturizing at 170, anything over is sterilizing

lol no man, firefang is really small, the firefang buffs the mycelium making it colonize stronger and resist contams

actinomycetes/firefang is a gram-positive bacterium, not a fungus.

just for clarification.
