Very slow growth in my Rye, why?
    #7439961 - 09/22/07 10:20 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I have 2 strains, Malabar and Treasure Coast. I knocked up a few jars, and they all showed great growth, and at %25, %50 etc etc of colonization I shook the shit out of them. The last time I shook they were a little over 75%, and now they have shown negligible growth for 3 days. No signs of infection or anything. Before they were exploding, especially after shaking them. I have read up in the FAQ's and I can't find a suitable explanation. Can anyone suggest something?

only shake at 25-30% and then again when time to spawn to your substrate... i'm not sure thats your problem but everytime you shake it damages the mycelium and it takes a minute to recover.... during this period contams can grab hold and fuck your project up.

Agreed. Only shake once during colonization.

So then it's just a waiting game? As long as there are no contaminations, they should recover after my loving them too much correct?

On a side note, I have some gymnopilus spectabilis spores. I was wondering where is it proper for me to talk about trading? Does anyone know if these are able to be produced indoors seeing as how they aren't a mychorrizal strain? Thanks!

I look forward to your PM CosmicFunGuy.

Is it at all possible that I am at the end of my rope for FAE? The oldest jars have been incubating for 2wks. I should have labeled them all, but I live and learn. If it is FAE, couldn't I just use a syringe, draw up air over my gas stove and inject into my jars? Thanks again for the help ya'll... I have spent a lot of time in the FAQ's.

you don't need FAE in colonizing jars... only gas exchange which is entirely different...

you should ahve some sort of filter on your jars for Gas exchange such as tyvek, micropore tape or polyfil....

i do not think drawing up air and injecting it would be a good idea...

I guess I misunderstood FAE... do you mean that FAE (the term) specifically applies to PF cakes, casings and the such? My jars have the standard hole for air/gas exchange, and an RTV inoculation port. Over that is tyvek. I guess I figured that if gas leaves the jar, then gas must come in the jar.

I won't try injecting fresh air, thanks for the tip.
