Found 4 nice cyans in first minutes of searching yesterday , and the little study mushroom I've been watching grow for about 3 weeks now is still not dropping spores (either growing slow from cold or because I keep is cover so no one else picks it). Found one last sunday too. Thats inland, as for the coast I'll be checking on 24th but it's central coast so the columbia area might be a little colder.
Cardboard stembutts are going great on a couple of pieces but a couple are too wet maybe? I only had one fruit when I tried the smoothie tek (should have used a coffe grinder, but thought of that later) and couldn't get the little guy fully ground fine but I poured the water onto so wet woodchips I just pulled from outside then put it all into a 1/2 pint jar and poured the water off into the woodchip patch outside, about 1mm myc growth on little spots where I can see much bits. Just tried so tissue culture into karo water from cyans, but cyan fruits are small so it was a test to get a clean piece cut from the inside of the stem. Did this LC/tissue with shiitake too.
This is my first season up in the PNW and I'm loving it, only found 4 little patches (plus some random libs)but 10.5 dry g is better then nothing and the knowledge is worth more then anything, thanks to everyone on shroomery couldn't have done it without. Any tips on the grow teks is very welcome.

I'm thinking about making the all day adventure to hunt the oregon coast tomorrow. What do people think? I've been planning on it for a few days now as I have it off work for new years. The only thing is Oregon got pretty dang cold last night froze in a lot of areas, might have put quite a damper on things.
I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck more recently?
did you go islandshroomer?

I still don't think it's gotten below freezing there yet more than those first couple times in November. Good luck!

Yeah I've been pondering the same thing. I dunno how cold it got on the coast, but it sure got cold in Portland area.

Any thoughts about Puget Sound area? This is my first season searching, and I don't have a feel yet for what grows where, when. I have found a few mushrooms over the last couple of weeks, but nothing I would eat.

Yeah, i've been at the coast for a week or so now. No luck, we had heavy hail and freezing rain a couple nights and there was a heavy frost that stuck around in shaded parts most of the day. I've seen mushrooms, lots, but no psilocybes.

Sorry for taking so long. Been a little under the weather.
My finding were that the season is coming to the end. I had to look hard but I found a few bunches. The ones I did find were already matured and mostly dried.
The thing is the last few days the freezing level has been on the rise and we have been getting this rain which is perfect weather. Suppose to drop back down monday - tuesday though.

I have been told its Helvella lacunosa The Elfin's Saddle and that it contains Monomethylhydrazine (MMH) rocket fuel.

They're everywhere under firs right now, replanted groves over 15 years old especially.

i have read this, but i dont know if i could bring myself to do it.
that thing is the most deadly looking 'plant' i have ever seen.
i remember right where it was, im probably mistaken, but it looks like there are a few cyan pins next to it.

i have eaten lots of helvella lacunosa on toast. they taste similar to morels in my opinion. i read to cook them though because of the rocket fuel in them. some people have allergic reactions to them too.
