Hello everyone!
Ive been following this thread since about October, and wow, there are some knowledgeable, lucky and just plain dedicated hunters out there. Congratulations to those who have struck gold, and for those who haven't, don't get discouraged. It's like that cliche: You don't find love, love finds you...but in this case it's mushrooms.
Here's some pics of what I've come across this season. Im going to submit a formal id request for the tall skinny lbm. I believe it's a P. pelliculosa or P. silvatica. Anyway, enjoy the pictures!

Season almost over? Oh... oh yes. It is. Don't even bother looking anymore, just stay inside so you don't disappoint yourselves.
Psily and I were up in Bham today. Found this place a few years ago. There were a few patches last year but we've really been waiting for it to blow up.
It finally did.
Just to show you what we were up against, this place is a couple acres large and we weren't able to cover most of it before we got tired of picking. You couldn't take a step without crushing them.

There were lots of mushrooms there, here's some cyans hanging out with agaricus.

About an hour hunched over is all we could handle, so we left a lot more than we took but we still took quite a bit

@cro, Are these things in plain view or hidden. I just couldnt imagine crawling around in plain view picking mushrooms.

Well, I knew I waited too long to check on my patches. Found another new one that could've given maybe close to an ounce dried, but literally all of them were pointless to pick.

Rotten stem?

If not for this dry cold weather we're having, I could've picked 4 or 5 times what I was able to get.

that is nice picking for an hour.
and taho: it took me a while to get used to picking in public. i don't mind too much anymore, as long as no cop rolls by twice.

seriously.
Anyway, this question has probably been asked already in this forum, but given the nebulous meandering conversations that have gone on, I'm at a loss to find it: How long after a good rain (following a dry spell like this one) do you generally find a good haul at your patches? As my current one is kinda in someone's backyard and checking on it is a little awkward, I'm trying to time my eventual visit to when I should be able to find the most mature/pickable specimens and avoid a repeat trip a day or two later.
Thanks in advance!

may depend on type of mushroom but usually if it rains wait at least 3-5 days and youll see growth if the patch has any life in it, and of course more rain means more growth, most patches are still produceing pins but just got slowed down from the cold dryspell.

Has anyone ever had luck finding any patches in Vancouver, WA? I'm starting to wonder if the lack of hardwood chips in Portland is a state-wide park maintenance thing...and if thats the case, if Washington parks are more apt to use those chips. Just contemplating making some trips across the river next time it rains, since the Portland scene is so dismal overall...
Thanks!

Vancouver is 95% conifer bark mulch. Never had any luck there. I may not be looking in the right places though. Head for the coast and look for grassy areas.
