the mushrooms are still out there. i just picked enough in ballard (seattle) today to fill all five trays on my dehydrator. PLUS!!!!! i found some Gymnopilus species that have amazing green mottling on the caps. I believe them to be Gymnopilus luteofolius. here's the pics of the gym's.

these are gymnopilus right? currently taking spore prints of 3 of the caps.

It's this frost that's making a killing.
Is anyone else finding mushrooms that are suffering? My own lil' patch is dying away. It saddens me.
I was sincerely hoping for the season to last into January like field guides say and people have been telling me. But all my finds end up black and cold.

Some patches do not produce all season...I have a few that only had an initial flush and others that are still producing.
In my 5 years experience, older patches get pooped out quick, maybe from all the nutrients being used up. Newer patches (ie: first time I've found them in that spot) have much larger fruits and longer flushes.
Get out there and find more patches and while you are at it, spread some spores for next year.

I wish my camera was working, as i made another haul today. There are crazy pins everywhere today where i picked yesterday, yet it hasn't rained. My only explanation is that the area is being watered by a nearby sprinkler, and thus keeping the patches cycle continuous. Hopefully it keeps producing, and if not, hopefully another patch finds me. Happy shrooming!

You have a fucking recockulous amount of shrooms in your yard. This thread isn't for id's though, so if you want any id'd post in the main hunting forum with proper descriptions.

Oh sure, we're still finding things. And definitely on the night missions :P But we'll need some more rain till anything is worth taking pics of. Most everything is looking like this right now...

And don't get me wrong, the dry is getting to the mushrooms but giving away patches doesn't help them any either. I can understand leaves but damn, you might as well put a spotlight on them if you do this.

I went out there just lately. Not much going on except for one patch. I think in a week when it clouds up and rains it will be booming again

Yeah, I'm thinkin this is just an unusual cold spell, and that the rain will be coming back for a huge flush.

Doubt that you'll see new mushrooms after a couple nights of freezing... Black cyans have always been a surefire tell-tale sign that the season is over... at least in my experience. Come south... we still seem to have a few stragglers.

Wow. I saw this thread when it only had a few pages about 2 weeks before the season started. And now it seems the season is almost over. and I'm still broke in finding any. oh well.
Just so many pages of mushrooms..
Sounds really terrible how people are tearing up the parks. I think as mushrooms become more popular, more tearing will happen. I'm going to do my best to leave the native species alone in the city. Not like I'm going to find any anyways.
Does this mean azures are out of season too?
