28 degrees last night.
I would think that would be a season killer.
Its almost 10 and the tub of water outside my back door is rock solid.

certainly not an end to your season. Many places havent had frost or freezing temps. And if the surface temperature/ground temperature were above freezing (which is likely right now), you should stay on the hunt.

my only worry is that theres also been no rain, the last patch i saw pins at is now dried up and NOW theres FROST.
chit.
unless theres rain in the next day or two, i wouldnt expect to see crap, however if it does this is going to be a gigantic flush. so maybe thats something to pray and dance naked for.

The season's far from over. It's usually just getting started around this time. This last flush is going to be hurting without rain and with all the wind, so recover what you can. But as soon as the rains start again, it's on. This is supposed to be a la nina season, which could mean we're picking into Jan/Feb.

Kill potency?

Hi all. I've been lurking here for a while. Thought I would share some pics I took this morning...notice the "stumps" from my first flush. It filled up my dehydrator in 30 mins of picking.

There are more popping up around the yard too! Habitat. Snoqualmie Valley Washington, Under cedar trees, with alder and chestnut mulch.

exactly, but not the cold temps itself kills psilocybin/psilocin only heat and oxygen.
its the fact that the water expands, bursting cell walls and exposing more of the psilocybin containing material to oxygen. oxydizing the active chemicals into something well..., inactive.
most frost mushrooms come out looking BLACK (not bacterial rot) from all the oxydation. all the pins i saw that were healthy the day before were black and dried up after that last frost.
i might swing by my larger patch later today for some pics, this time there might be some large fruits like last time, usually every 3 days we tend to find 20-40 mature pygmy specimens as the pins vary and usually theres a few new ones everyday
hopefuly they arent totally pwned by the cell burstings, my lawn was WHITE this morn. now called mourn.

Wow, that's terrible. I KNEW I should've picked the rest of them at this small patch I discovered.
That's really too bad.
Thanks for that elaborate lesson. Now I know. Haha
thanks.

This is an urban myth that seems to resurface just about every year here on the Shroomery. @cro, Psilygirl and DH have found massive flushes after 2 or 3 good freezes.
Keep hunting, this season is just getting started.

All of my room mates and hunting buddies are getting freaked out too...everyone thinks its over, i know if there's more rain, it will make for a huge flush because they've been a little cold shocked....i'm still holding out for some of the biggest picks...

IME PDX hasn't been all that prolific for producing large crops of cyans. Is this the year it's all changing?
BTW: went on a run through a local park recently, not even in hunting mode, and saw several mulched spots around trees that had noticeable divets in them--someone had obviously dug out several spots and probably fucked all the mycelium up, too. BASTARDS!
The main trouble in the Portland area is that almost everyone uses conifer(douglas fir, or hemlock) bark as mulch. I've never found actives on conifer bark. I've heard of people finding them on it, but I think it's because it was put over the top of hardwood chips.

portland's just not like oly or sea. ive found them in a bed of doug fir mulch that had been laid on top of soil in less than 9 months, no hardwood underneath. portland is just hard..

well we brought our beanies to load with cyans, but our thoughts were right and the cold had killed them.
 no cyans for us today
so we took a stroll in another direction

Still nothing. Do they grow in landscape beds? Parks? Where should I be looking I know they don't like red bark but it seems that's all I can find. I don't know where I'd find woodchips just lying around.

i think it's awesome some of you folks play discgolf. I am no where near you geographically, but where I do live, I find my own types of actives... all at the disc golf course.
odd how that works out.
I anhyzered a disc over a fence, hit a cow, and my disc landed right next to this giant patch of Ps.cubes, as well as some gallerina's.
it was a good day. But, cubes are boring. Wish I had more woodlovers here.
