its the same as ingesting, well...
lets put it this way: would you eat a rotten vegetable? or any other rotten food? they are in a state of decomposition.

Meh, I don't care, I'll just grind 'em up and throw them in a drink, won't bother selling them. Just gonna toss out the incredibly black ones. Dunno why, but the rotting factor to me is different for this.
I guess I should get out there asap and get the ones close to rotting huh?

Haha, yeah I would only eat like 3 of those. And even then, there'd be some questioning.

you know what that is when it gets old and black like that?..That's bacteria that grows on it, and it'll make you sick.
there is only one way to get around that if you insist on saving it, and that is to dry it out (dehydrate)..That will kill that bacteria.
there is a certain point where it's not worth it to try to save it, and it's hard to describe...Some of those in the photo look close, although when bacteria starts eating it, it becomes really flakey when dried, so it's easy to just crumble the bad parts out with your fingers and save whatever is left.(meaty portions not yet taken over by bacteria)
after it's dried...never eat those things wet..that causes more gastro intestinal pain than mis identification.
I've seen it soooo many times with actives

Yeah the only ones I've ever eaten fresh were perfect specimens. But even those are easier on the stomach when dried.

yep, a lot of people forget that it's not much different from other edible mushrooms, or even vegetables....It'll go bad past a certain point, and eventually decompose
cyans are no different, and there's no preservatives in those either that will stop bacteria growth..you gotta dry them out, and the sooner the better.
Once they are picked, the clock is ticking, and sometimes even before that, if the fruit is past it's prime. Once the fruit peaks, it can't defend itself anymore, and it goes from good to bad to worse in just a couple of days sometimes

Mine were tan and did not resemble cyans but the pins did and they had some bluing, they were pretty dry. They seemed pretty edible to me though.

These are still ok to eat right? Are they rotting?

Take the old ones and put them to good spawning use, maybe you can get a new patch to fruit. I wouldn't eat them

Yeah, I won't eat them. But about the ones that are already white, and aren't very big, should I pick them anyway?

yeah, sure. The only reason not to pick pins are:
-They're harder to pinch off, if you don't have scissors, and delicate networking can be destroyed.
-They are smaller, and letting them grow will give you more gramage.
-They have not yet matured past adolescence and you've robbed them of their "humping" rights.
If they are matured, you can assure that none of those benefits have been lost. I will admit to picking smaller matured specimens. They are easier to dry and more potent per weight. Althoug, finding those monster cyans is always fun, so it's good to let them grow.
Later.

Yeah, I normally wouldn't pick any smaller than say a 50cent piece, as I'm letting my first patch grow, but in this case...
