I live in Seattle and it's been raining for about 4 days straight. Today is bright and sunny, in the high 60's. I went hunting and all the mushies seem so small; just babies.
How long should I wait for them to be a good size? How long do you usually wait? A day? Two? a few hours?
Thanks.

Went for a hunt on my lunch break.
WOW - stems as fat as blunts and caps as big as grapefruits. It's weird, the other fruits I've found have been relatively small...I've never seen cyans this huge.
I'll post pics when I get home....arrrgh, back to work now.

Seems all the good spots I have found are known to others. One I found with another guy, we agreed to keep quiet, there were lots of pins and mature specimens the other day, I left the pins and there was nothin today. The other spot I have seen people at every other time I go, and there's not a pin to be found there either, and lots of muddy tracks and broken branches. I worry about the lack of pins. Are some of the second flush pins produced with the first flush? Will the second flushes be tiny because folks took all the pins? Oh dear...

Hey Mattthewww Mushooms that have flattened out and exposing gills are technically ready to go. usually 1and a half days after you see the pin... but whenever possible, I wait 4 or 5 days after they pin. The mushroom is bigger and has had a chance to drop all (or most) of it's spores.
Problem is, a lot of people are picking Seattle spots... and not all of the pickers are cool. So... you're not seeing a lot of mushrooms reaching maturity.
grr.
m@, so?

just to piss everyone off:

hahahahaha!
who the fuck cares if u pick pins as long as ur not killing the mycelium underneath?
so i didnt get the extra grams weight
but WHO CARES(besides, maybe, me? but i dont...).
its the higher powers patch, doesnt belong to anyone in particular, and no one else picks from it, so who would i be pissing off but myself?

anyone who has anything to say different can kiss my ass funny that everyone has to bash on people for picking pins from their private patches, even when they arent harming the mycelium. its their decision how much they want to harvest.
plus, i wanted to get some photos of the cobwebby veil.

by the way, these came from a new patch we discovered today while browsing a local beach for azures. mmmmmm driftwood. (not that azures grow by the hood canal? or do they? it was worth the look at least.) saw psillygirl's post and went straight to the beach to look.
found some hericium growing out of a mud wall at the beach too... im gonna clone it on cardboard.

our goats, chickens, and dog came to smell! mmmm fungus the chicken even ate some lol
i once fed a chicken some chicken and they liked it. i wonder if chickens would eat chicken of the woods?
great pics everyone!

Yeah, Mattso. I'm finding it terribly hard to find anything. I've seen a few pins like I said, but, last year was way more abundant. I lived in Kent, though. Now in Seattle, I guess the hunt is more fierce.
But, yeah thanks for that. I will give it another day or two.

Some years you have good luck other years none. I found nothing last year, I even went to a few private patches in my neighbor hood and nothing. This year I have gone way off my regular beatin path and I'm commin up wavy. Go for a walk where you normaly don't go and keep yuor eyes in the wood chips, you'll find them. Good Luck
