Overheating Incubator....

Was curious if my incubator that seems to stay around 83 degrees, but has reached upwards of 90 (for a short period of time) would inhibit the growth of the mycelium? Are my jars a lost cause, or what guys?
Thanks in advance!

if it was no more than a few hours they should be fine, but 83 is a bit warm. 78 is right about spot on. the inside of the jars will be a bit warmer.

What you can do is set a fan on a timer pointed at your incubators. If its happening during the day, set the hours accordingly. I set my for 5 min bursts. 5 on, 5 off... For say 6 hours. It helps dissipate the stagnating heat. Also, Where are the bins located? If the ambient heat reaches above 83 degrees for prolonged periods you cant really do much. Put if its just rising slightly due to sun light or cooking or various other heat sources that are less consistent... Then a fan can help.

Even better is to forget the incubator and colonize jars on an open shelf at normal room temperature. Upper shelves will be a degree or two warmer than lower shelves. 75F to 80F works great. Lower temps work too, but will take a few days longer in colonization. RR

I have them in a closet, in the TiT style incubator and have put a mini fan pointed at them. Don't think it blows fast enough to be on a timer, so I just turned it on and pointed it at the tubs. Has only been 2 days since inoculation but still no signs of any life, hoping I didn't bake em.
RR- I was thinking the same thing being a two story house the upstairs is always warmer anyways, and I have them in the upstairs closet, and it seems to be a steady 75-79 degrees up there so I think I am just going to put them on the shelf.
Thanks for the help thus far gents!

The same thing happened in my incubator, I usually run it between 80*f-82*f. However exterior temps. affect the interior temp. of the incubator. I usually check it, and cool as needed, this time, however, I missed it...The Temp was sitting at 90*F and i'm not sure for how long...perhaps 4-8 hours. Is my culture doomed? Can I easily tell if the Mycelium died? ,(as it still looks healthy to me). If it they do live through this "heat-shock", how long can I expect it to take for things to pick back-up before I should just decide call it quits on this culture run? Just FYI: My Incubator is nothing more than a single Tupperware container that has a juice jar filled with water in the middle with a fish-tank heater installed into the jar of the water. Seems to work fine but like I said Extior temps. affect the incubator easy.
Thanks In advance for any help.

fungi-magic, keep an eye on the date of these threads, this one is 5+ years old. Though this is a strange dichotomy between using the search engine for useful information, which encompasses up to date info, and posting a new thread to find such info. Just be aware.
To answer your inquiry, you should be good to go. Incubators are out of date however, room temp (~70-75 F) is good for myc. At higher temps, 80+, you have a higher chance for contamination; they grow better in the higher ranges. I had an incubator like yours, but ditched it when I heard it was a not-so-good idea.

When I was actually using an incubator I had it hooked up to a lux win 100 temperature controller. I had a fish tank heater in a tube and then another tube floating on the water dropped a towel down in the top tub to keep the jars off the heated bottom. It worked great kept the incubator at any temp I wanted. But now I just put them on a top shelf as RR stated. the win 100 is great thought I use for many things.

main reason i posted the link was for the "thermal death temperature" of 106F. Not sure if that's outdated info or not. I think having your jars around 90 ish for a few hours wouldn't kill the myc
