Disc Golf 1

Is probably one of the most chillest sports ever invented. Everyone's friendly, everyone smokes pot, hell, they even have a designated "smoking hole."
I left a huge nug sitting on a bench at one hole after smoking everybody down, and one of the kids ran up and gave it back to me.
I love disc golf.
Anybody else disc?

The course I play at has 18 "holes," just like a regular golf course. It's in a park, so some holes are in the woods and some are on fields or hills. The idea is to take a disc (which is different from a regular frisbee) and try to make it into a basket at the end of the hole.
Sounds simple, cuz it is, but it's very much fun, especially when you're chillin with your friends and you all get down on some tasty herb.
Look up the nearest course and go, it's great
As for it being European, I'm not exactly sure

I play semi-religiously, and have for several years. But the local club is full of pros and baggers, and I suck next to them. Average drive just under 300 feet, with my best around 340. I can't fucking putt to save my life, but I can make some decent upshots now and then.
Best course I ever played: Seven Oaks, Nashville Toughest course I ever played: Cedar Hill, Nashville, long positions. Jesus wept. Home course: Cane Creek, Cookeville, TN
If you're ever in middle tennessee, I'll introduce you to our course. It rocks. 9 open holes and 9 heavily wooded holes, with a water hole for good measure. We just had our first sanctioned PDGA tourney recently. We're on the PDGA site. Cane Creek.

Damn, I've never seen any professionals play or anything like that. I didn't even know there was a PDGA.
I play at Cass-Benton Park in Northville, Michigan. It's got a nice mixture of wooded and open holes. There's one that's got some water, if you over-shoot the basket you end up in the "Rio Grande," a big river that eats up discs.
Some people put on waders and take a rake and find all the discs, then sell 'em real cheap. I got a Beast for three bucks

I saw a guy take a disc to the face, it was not pretty. He cried.
(EDIT) btw, what discs do you use?

innova and discraft??? I can't spell em, I just know what feel I want and the weight I need. I have had one hit me in the lower spine and make me fall, they aren't any joke and when the wind is right, I'll take anyone on, it's a fun game.

There are so many disc golf courses here it is unreal. Most of them are pretty nice too. There is one that wraps around a cop shop too. I don't think they have any idea how much herb is smoked just yards from them.

so you use regular golf clubs right? drivers, chippers, and putters right?
but you dont use actual frisbees. what sort of discs are you talking about?
and you play on regular golf courses? id figure that most golf clubs would have a problem with you knocking around a disc on their greenways instead of a golf ball. theyre always just about the biggest pricks around these parts.

Anyone else throw sidearm? I love the look of awe on a person's face when I drop a disc right underneath a bucket from 350' of thick trees even more than making that shot.
Here's a geographical database of courses for those not in the know:
http://www.pdga.com/course/index.php
And it's generally FREE!!!!!

I have also developed a penchant for the sidearm. But the trick with backhand is to put wrist into it and keep it low... also anheiser... depending on the hole.
If anyone lives in Western Washington and wants to play... seriously shoot me a PM or something. I play almost everyday.

That site has tons of info on discs, technique, etc.
Ima sidearm thrower, too. They say that on average maybe one in ten players throws sidearm, but half of our club consists of sidearms. Something in the water around here.

The really good players won't limit themselves to sidearm or forearm. To them it's just like doubling the amount of discs in your bag.

True, and we've got a fair number of people who throw both ways. My backhand sucks, so I usually drive with a sidearm. Then I go backhand for my upshots, because my midrange control with a sidearm isn't very good.
It sucks to play with pros and baggers. I mean, you learn a lot, but watching someone make a 550-foot drive just makes me want to cry. I will never have that kind of D.

Playing with pros is fun, but the baggers need a curbjob. Lamers can't even compete at their own skill level because they know they'll get crushed.

I'm usually the navigator. But there's no such thing as a bad game of golf. I have a good time and get my exercise. I'm lucky to have a nice course close by the house and lots of cool people to play with.
Twice a year we play Hillbilly Disc Golf: we all get our baskets together and convert this guy's pasture to an 18-hole course with lots of wooded shots on steep rocky hills. It's a brutal game, made even tougher by the fact that everyone gets smashed while we're playing.

I usually stick to just one. Too much hassle carrying a bunch of shit around.
And to the people who are still confused. You use "discs", which are like smaller, heavier frisbees (not very good for playing catch). Different discs are called drivers, putters, etc... based on their weight and shape and whatnot. There are a series of holes like in regular golf, but instead of a hole in the ground it is a large, metal basket. It's not really much more complicated than that. I prefer to play skins, so I don't have to remember a bunch of big numbers.

I always play with just one disc. I drive either sidearm or backhand, and I'm above average at both. There are several different courses here, and some are less stoner friendly than others. One is a course all over a mountain, and it entails quite a lot of hiking to complete 18 holes. In the summer, it's almost completely devoid of stoners. It's just too steep for that.
Others are more shady and low lying, and those are where all the stoners go. I prefer the mountain myself, as it's like a nice hike in nature every time you play. I've gotten a little too good at it though, I can't find anyone to really compete with. It's hard to improve when everyone else is below your skill level. So if any of you are out in the Montana area, shoot me a pm.

That's all I carry as well. A driver, mid-range, and a putter. No need for anything else really. Plus more than three tend to just get in the way and you end up loosing just by forgetting it somewhere or dropping it while walking.
