I discovered these while looking for a smoke spot next to the river here in San Marcos. Does anyone know the Identity of these beauties?
I wasnt planning to pick any so I didn't take a spore print though I assume it was probably white or clear. The mushroom was white as can be seen the pictures. That top cap is about 6 inches in diameter.
I know its not psychoactive but I was curious anyway. Thanks in advance for the help .

Looks like some kind of Armillaria. But don't eat it just based on that, its just a guess.
There aren't a lot of large white spored mushrooms that grow on wood, in fact I can't think of anything outside of Armillaria that would do that. But the top of the cap doesn't really look like Armillaria, there are no little fibers.

No, I didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing it out.
It looks like a cinnamon brown shadow to me.
The gills look grey, so I would guess the spore color is something between cinnamon brown and grey.

Yes, I think so.
It would be the first cluster of Pluteus I have seen, but I think you are right.

It is really difficult to make out the gill attachment in the above photos.
Last week I ran across a cluster of Pluteus spp. It was an exciting moment in that weird mushroom fever kinda way. I had never found cespitose Pluteus before.
