Have you ever had to get an SR-22?
    #7437478 - 09/21/07 04:58 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I was just informed that I have to get one. I don't have a car, so apparently I have to get "non owners insurance"...

For anyone familiar with this BS, does that mean I have to pay a monthly insurance fee? I was told to go through a national car insurance company, because I moved across the nation from the state that suspended my license.

Thanks for any help. This is pissing me off.

Do you just buy one, or is it a monthly insurance fee/policy? Cuz fuck the latter.

What the fuck are you insuring if you don't even drive, much less have a car? I mean I'd understand if you were driving other people's cars, but if you don't drive, how can you need a form of car insurance?

This makes no sense...

I'm being asked to get a drivers license for work, so I can drive to various jobsites.

I agree that it makes no sense. All the trucks I'd be driving already have insurance, and they cover every consented employee driver. I strongly discourage driving unless necessary and I won't be getting a car, which is why I'm iffy about even getting this SR-22 thing. It's court ordered if I want to have a drivers license again. I don't quite understand if the requirement for an SR22 goes away after an alotted time, or if I need one for three years no matter when I want my license reinstated. Ugh.

Oh.

You ARE going to be driving.

That's not the impression I got from your first post.

Nevermind...

Sorry for the confusion.

Unfortunately, I still don't understand exactly how this works. And I'm broke. I can't be paying for insurance every month.

They won't necessarily fire me if I don't get a license, I'm just trying to make them happy. I love my job.

Could you folks maybe stop picking apart the details of my situation and just help me with the actual questions I've asked here?

Thanks.

As far as I know an SR-22 is prepaid insuarance policy for "high risk" drivers. Im one of them. So in FL I dunu how it is in your state I think you have to prepay for the insurance for a given amount of time. I think its really fucken expensive too.

D'oh! Well thanks for the tip!

So by prepaid.. say.. you put down $100, and that's like your maximum liability coverage or something? And you have to keep renewing this for certain periods of time?
