Ipod/ I tunes question. How to get music off of my ipod onto my new computer

My old laptop took a shit a long time ago, and I want to add new songs to my I-pod. However, I think that if i try and add new songs to my I-pod without first having the existing songs on my Ipod in my I tunes library, that the songs I all ready have on my ipod will be deleted..
any help? I feel foolish for having my technology outsmart me like this

In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption" "People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

You need to turn off syncing with your library. In the options, simply select 'manualy manage my music' before connecting the iPod.

edit: of course, after this you'll need to individualy drag albums/songs onto your ipod after you've added them to your library, but I like to do this anyway, considering i only have a 4gb ipod nano. My library is 10x bigger than what can fit on the ipod.

There's supposed to be a special prgram that you can take files off your ipod and move them back on to your computer. I think its really gay that they designed it like that but I guess they want to get as much money out of itunes as possible. I'd definitely try and back it up before you move anything new on there I know more than one person who's lost their whole library bc of apple's stupid anti-piraacy measures

zippoz, do you have room to create an extra partition on your hard drive? if so, install a small linux distro and then install amarok. amarok manages your music library and doesnt care whos ipod is connected to the computer... you can drag back and forth from computer to ipod with no hassles.
also, amarok is the best music player ever... so it has that going for it

This is how I do it:
1. Make sure Itunes is not installed on your computer. 2. Plug in your Ipod (via USB) and it shows up as an external hard drive. 3. Open up the folder of your Ipod and make it so that you can see hidden folders. 4. You should see a folder called Ipod control and under it is your music. 5. Copy that folder to your desktop. If you have a lot of music it may take a half hour or so. 6. Install Itunes and import all of the folders that you copied over into your library.

Download ipodcopy. It works pretty damn fast and copies not only audio files but the mp4 vids on your pod as well. I used to use Podplus but then ipodcopy came along and made it pretty much obsolete in comparison.
