Eating sporulated mushrooms
    #7434941 - 09/21/07 12:17 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I was wondering if eating mushrooms that had been neglected and allowed to drop their spores all over themselves is still ok. What really concerns me is that some of the stalks had fuzzy felt-like growth on it, not very badly, but it was there, and the largest caps had some minor growth on it too, and everything was covered with spores. Do you think its worth it to try them? or should i throw them out? There were some in the same FC that were fine, they weren't allowed to break their veils. Any thoughts?

Spores taste nasty, but are otherwise harmless if eaten.

The fuzzy stuff is just a little aerial mycelium. I get it on the base of most of my stalks. Nothing to worry about at all, it's part of the mushroom.
