Yes, the same thing happened in the Adirondack mountains not to long ago -- they said it would be harmful to the natural environment's beauty.
Same with the Suppose to be, Tree-look-a-like Cell Towers
what are some of the arguements though? thats pretty interesting

any centralized power generation system is going to look ridiculous, have an undue impact on the environment, and piss someone off. personal solar for every home / building would help, but the power companies obviously don't want that to happen.

One valid argument is that windmills can hurt migrating birds. They run into the spinning blades. There are methods for reducing this, but some birds will still be killed.

They say that there eye sores and get this ...that birds will constantly be flyng into them and get killed ,first of all they look a lot better than the cell towers ,second those turbines are HUGE ,the chances of a bird getting hit by them are very very slim and thirdly a bird stupid enough to fly straight into a wind turbine will be dead before it gets the chance.

I agree. However, think of how much wildlife is kilfled by the pollution from other types of power. I imagine just as many animals/fish die as birds who could possibly be killed by the windmills. I think would rather see some windmills than a smoke stack belching out black shit.

But would you rather have wind turbines along the countryside or nuclear plants near heavily populated areas.

You guys do know that white stuff coming off nuclear power plants is clean water vapor, right, not some nasty shit that's gonna kill you.
Nuclear power is clean for the environment, though the radioactive spent fuel has to be stored for a long time.

Depends. Some wind turbines can be quite noisy.
But for the reasons given..nahh. Normal energy-generating pollution would kill far more birds than wind turbines.
Dick Cheney likes to kill caged helpless birds while drunk. He alone has killed more of our feathered friends than turbines.

Normal energy-generating pollution would kill far more birds than wind turbines.
I think the argument is more complicated than this.
Normal energy-production probably kills more birds overall as a byproduct of damage to the environment, but the ideal location for windmill farms is often in the path of endangered migratory birds. This makes windmills kill endangered birds disproportionately as they make their yearly migration.
I don't know enough about the issue to have an opinion, but I don't think the argument can be dismissed so easily.

there will ALWAYS be some kind of opposition with something. Its sort of lame. People like to be against things to be against things.

I have had an idea.
In major cities where pollution is rife, like LA, Hong Kong, Melbourne etc etc, they should set up some kind of perhaps government-funded company to start hiring all roof space of high rise buildings and using them as solar panels, and fuck knows that roof space on a sky skraper would get a fair bit of sunlight, why not use it. They could make a killing selling the electricity into the grid, no? if you owned like 120 hectares of solar panels then thats a good bit of clean power right there

We have to start somewhere with clean renewable energy. I know wind isn't perfect but at least it's a start. I agree there should be more solar but it's not perfect yet either.
At least if there's an accident on a wind turbine it won't affect the next two generations of people. Don't forget Chernobyl. And lets talk about the long term storage of all that radioactive waste.
Ideally everyone would generate their own power via waterwheels, solar panels and such but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Better to have a piece of the landscape obscured by ugly propellors than to have humanity wiped out by global warming, I suppose?
Wind power has its drawbacks, but they aren't nearly so bad as the problems caused by most power generation systems. As technology gets better and solar power becomes cheaper and easier to use (not that setting up your own panels right now is even that difficult), wind turbines will probably become less prominent anyway.

Me too. I don't think a wind turbine is an eyesore. It's a monument to clean energy and respect for the environment. I can see beauty in that. We have a single wind turbine in my town and I think it's neat.
