pressure cooker question
    #7433766 - 09/20/07 06:53 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

So, I thought I bought an all american pressure cooker on ebay. Instead I got an all american sterilizer. Will this still work ok for mushroom cultivation? Do I need to convert this over to the jiggler/stem instead?

Thanks for the help.

It will work just fine even better then a cooker

ALL AMERICAN PRESSURE STERILIZERS
The All-American Pressure Sterilizers differ from the Pressure Cookers in several ways that make them better tools for the mushroom cultivator. A stopcock prevents steam from escaping once sterilization temperatures have been achieved (the Pressure Cooker utilizes a weighted vent pipe instead); this means that they require less monitoring than the Pressure Cooker. These units also feature a capillary tube and a removable solid insert basket.

Either way, you will be pleased with your new AA.

This was definitely $50 well spent. It came right up to pressure and has been fairly easy to hold it steady at about 17psi. AA definitely makes a nice pressure cooker/sterilizer. It definitely shows its age in the screws that clamp down the lid, but then again I can buy new ones and make this pc look like new.

thanks for the webpage. I am so happy right now. This is an awesome birthday present that I bought for myself. I can't believe how expensive these things are new. Fuck buying a new one, mine is going to do just fine. I can't wait to try rye again now that I have a proper pressure cooker. I got tired of fighting with wet rot.

:bigblunt:

edit: something I really like about this sterilizer over the pressure cooker is how quiet it is. No steam escaping really, just the creaking of the stove burner as it maintains temp.

A question to anyone who has experience with an AA steam sterilizer. Am I correct in saying that this thing uses little to no water in sterilizing? When I opened up the PC this morning, the same amount of water was in there that I put in last night.
