Diffrent types of dung...
    #743273 - 07/13/02 06:45 AM (22 years, 9 months ago)

Ok... call me ignorant, but I've been wondering why certain animal shits are better at making compost than others?
Does it have to do with only what they eat?
Their digestive system?
The bacteria in the dung/shit?
Can't you just feed an animal besides (sheep or cows) a special diet to make their shit usable in a compost?
I've heard of elephant and horse dung growing mushrooms before. Would it ever be possible to use let's say a common house animal like a dog (shit) for a compost?...if fed the right diet and so on.
Thanks

Actually it's not only what animals eat, it's has also to do with the digestive system. Even if a carnivore like us humans eat only vegetables, our digestive system will always have certain bacteria wich makes our shit not good for mushroom growing, on the contrary hervibores have the correct digestive system and the correct diet to produce good shit.
