Florida IDs, and some myco-xxx
    #7431840 - 09/20/07 11:28 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Went to my two new fields in central Florida, east cost. It has been VERY wet and the first field was basically flooded and didn't produce anything.

Species #1 Found in dung in shady areas. they bruise heavy blue. dark gills, almost black. stem is quite fragile and somewhat transparent except for the blue bruising. I'm thinking these are what they call "blue meanies".

Species #2 Pretty large mushroom, found growing a very fertilized area, but not directly in dung, possibly what could have been dung several months ago. The top of the cap has a "nipple" which makes me think its a cubensis. What throws me off is the gills are not dark in color, however they are definitely blue. The veil is also white. I'm making the spore print right now so we'll see how that goes.

The second one appears to be a Chlorophyllum molybdites. Looks somewhat similar to cube, at times, but is poisonous. The first may be a Panaeolus cyanescens, but I am not sure since I have yet to find one that was without a doubt. I found a few that looked similar, only smaller and the stem was TINY. It bruised what appeared to be blue only after minutes of handling.

yes, the first picture and the second are of panaeolus cyanescens. a very powerful magic mushroom.

the rest should be dispensed of since they arent safe for consumption.

yes you deff have your blue meanies in the first pic, the other white ones the big uns , are toxic , keep that in mind , and be careful , alot of new hunters mistake them for cubes because they take the green bruising as confirmation that itll make you trip , which is not the case , and that my friend is why they had to shop for new jeans after blowing putrid fecal holes in all their old jeans

1) Panaeolus cyanescens
2) Chlorophyllum molybdites
3) Parasola. Nice ring on the stem, most Parasola's don't have that.
4) Suillus
5) Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum
6) Oyster, probably
7) Leucoagaricus leucothites looks like a match. But don't eat it just based on that ID.

#1,2,7 are Paneoleous Tropicalis NOT ACTIVE

#3,4 are Green Gills POISONOUS

#5 I believe are some kind of Mycena NOT ACTIVE

#6 Some type of Bolete maybe? NOT ACTIVE

The last two I'm unsure about but they are definatly not active and most likely POISONOUS

Funny that looks just like my field, I just moved to colorado tho :frown: No more cubes for me, well except the amazonians I grow.

thanks subbedhunter. ive only tripped on cubes before, about how manymore times more powerful are the pans cyans than cubes by weight? i have about 4 caps the size from the picture and 2 more babies about half the size. i'm thinking that this might be a whole lot for one person if theyre very powerful

Those are not Pan. Cyans. I promise you, Pan. Tropicalis, non active, I used to live in central Florida and they rule the fields but trust me don't waste your time eating them you'll just be disappointed.

EDIT: On second thought try them out, prove me right....maybe you'll get lucky and prove me wrong.

I'm convinced you have no actives, if you have to eat them and be disappointed so be it.

Pan Cyans
Does that look anything like yours? I rest my case.

> #1,2,7 are Paneoleous Tropicalis NOT ACTIVE

It is possible that 1 and 2 are Panaeolus tropicalis (it looks much like Panaeolus cyanescens but has different sized spores), but number 7 is a different Panaeolus. Panaeolus tropicalis is quite active. I think you are confusing it with Panaeolus antillarum.

> #3,4 are Green Gills POISONOUS

For sure.

> #5 I believe are some kind of Mycena NOT ACTIVE

Mycenas don't have a ring on the stem and they never flatten out that much in age.

> #6 Some type of Bolete maybe? NOT ACTIVE

Could be a Bolete. Suillus are very similar but have larger pores.

1st 2 pics are definitely not pan cyans. that is definitely not bluing either, thats GREY not blue. if they were pan cyans they would almost turn black after handling them

2FiNiTe... First of all: Since you can actually see the blue bruising on the first specimens, and all the other signs also absolutely look like Pan. Cyan. you can be 99.9% sure that this IS Pan. Cyanescens.
Second: Panaeolus Tropicalis IS active as hell.
Third: The Specimen on pic No. seven is definatily a different than the ones in the first two pics!
