How many average sized, average potency fruits would it take to trip eaten dry or fresh? Seems like people love weilii's.

UPDATE: just got back from looking for gyms , found nothing growing on rotten wood , no mushrooms at all acctually , except for one MONSTER weilii , its the strangest weilii ive ever found .... Completely white .. stem gills and cap .. smelled like a regular mushroom , weighs FOURTY GRAMS ...... picked it out of the grass and almost LEFT IT BEHIND FTW .. took a pic and was bout to walk off then i was like wait a minute , picked it up and noticed a hint of blueing where i had grabbed it from .. smelled it again and im like nah cant be , stuck it in my pocket anyways , just got home , cant find my trans-flash card for camera so pics wont be until later, anyhow , i get home , pull it outta my pocket and the sucker is completely blue now .. youll see how much it didnt look like a weilii when i get the pics uploaded , im sure there are no other species that grows in grass, i found it in a small patch of grass in a clearing in the woods , so completely wild lol , a first for me. Keep posted for updates guys itll be a few hours but ill have pics up soon

You should dry them in open air, not in a plastic tub, they could rot.

citric, they will not dry fast enough. They are organic matter, they will rot faster than they will dry in that tub. They need to be in open air, preferrably a food dehydrator or in front of a fan. If they start smelling sour, or rotten, and turn blackish, they are not suitable to eat.
mmbmk, all the mushrooms pictured are Ps. weilii.

Darker than when fresh, but not black, unless you bruised it a LOT while handling. But if it smells rotten, it is, and you can get food poisoning from eating them.

That bottom picture looks like it has some mold on it. I would throw that one away but the rest look alright. What you wanna look out for is the slimy moldy ones, they wont necessarily kill you but the stomach pains aren't worth it.

Those look borderline. I can tell they were certainly not dried properly. Next time do not dry them in a plastic tub, it just doesn't work. If they smell pretty bad, I wouldn't eat them.

Cool. I will also inform you that mushrooms lose potency when they degrade, as yours have slightly from sitting too long before drying completely.
The best way to retain the potency of your mushrooms is to handle them carefully, dry them properly, and store them in an air tight container, away from heat.

I found these in my backyard near Cherokee County GA. They are growing in large clusters, as well as smaller groups. Really came out a few days ago when rain came through and temps dipped. Now they seem to be drying up a bit. Sporeprint looks black, maybe a tinge of dark purple. Cap is mostly dark beige, getting darker when wet. various sizes, a put a quarter in the picture to help. The stems. I tasted a small piece, tastes like a mushroom. Whiteish stems that have brown streaks. The gills are chocolate brown Any help in ID'ing these would be much appreciated. We have children in the yard.

Please click on the attached slideshow to view pictures. They are growing in bermuda grass near pine straw islands. I cannot see much bruising at all. My buddy told me based on a physical description that they could be Weilii or another common lawn mushroom that is toxic?

Its funny actually, I work at some water treatment facilites, among many other places, but I was talking to one of the guys at the Pike County Resevoir, he said that this is the worst on record, and they have been recording for 170 years. I live near sweet water park, and there *used* to be a nice lake there, but now its mostly grass, dirt and tires. I tell you what though, despite that there are still some kind of bolete growing in my front yard, where they found the moisture to grow I don't know.

It hasn't rained in DeKalb/Cobb/Fulton in awhile for me. The forecast looks promising though.

No. They only grow in a handful of counties in Northern Georgia. Come on, this is answered everywhere. Even a simple google search would have answered this.

Where i am in Cobb just got a nice 30-45 min of hard rain! I'm psyched. It didn't rain very long but it was coming down in buckets. Methinks i should wake up early and go by some of my favorite neighborhood patches in the early AM. Anyone else in cobb think it was enough? I've got a new set of batteries so if my soggy-shoed wanderings yeild anything i'll be shure to photographically document it to share. Happy hunting!

i'd say give it about 2 days. If the weather forecast is correct, it's supposed to rain in my area until saturday
So, give 'em at least a day to do their thing and then go check around on saturday

hey CureCat, this topic is not about rain, it's about weilii. That's perfectly acceptable. No one is breaking a rule because no one has made a thread specifically about rain.

If a thread turns into a discussion of such, and persists despite warning, then yes, it can be locked. Just because the thread is supposed to be about weilii, doesn't mean the thread can continue on with 10+ posts about the weather.

The point is as coon indicates- No one wants to sort through 3 pages of discussion about weather, to get to the goods. If it was important info, it would be allowed, however, the weather is only important to the people in the area, and they can go outside themselves and see if it is raining. So it's just kinda pointless.

I went out today and only found two, but they were the two biggest ones I have found yet. In my second pic there are two smaller mushrooms that I found that were already about 80% dry and they look a lot like dried weilii's to me, but I cant detect any blueing at all so I am just gonna toss them.

i know dude but...FUCK!!! I hunt these things EVERY chance I get. This year I've burned up over $100 worth of gas and walked about 20 miles probably. I mean, it gets a little fuckin frustrating when you're seeing posts of massive finds and I aint findin shit. I've done all the research I can fuckin do. Im hunting in all the right towns. I found my first cube this spring and I was stoked as hell. If I ever find a patch of weilii I'll probably shit myself with excitement. So...all that being said, I can bitch if I want to.

The first time I found them, I wasnt even looking. I had done my research and when I passed by them on a particular sidewalk I knew exactly what they were. This drought isnt exactly helping, but they are out there. My best advice is, keep looking. Once you make your first find your next finds will come a lot easier. It seems like it just takes that first find to get the ball rolling.

Yeah, I think that might be an Armillaria species. I've seen some species' of Armillaria that look amazingly like P. cyanescens as well (from a considerable distance).

weilii love rain and cooler weather, so without the rain, you arent going to see many mushrooms at all. I wish we would get like a solid three days of rain, that would cause a record breaking flush, I bet.

Hey, everyone. This is my first post here. I'm a Georgia resident, and I read up on Weilii after taking an interest in shrooms in general. I live in the Canton area, so they should be around. It rained here just earlier today, so I'll be going on my first actual hunt sometime tomorrow.
Wish me luck. Hopefully I'll have some good sporenography for you guys.

Well, my hunt yielded no real success (but it was nice to spend some time outside and hang with Mother Nature for awhile, so I'm not bitter). I took a walk through the neighborhood while carefully examining the roadsides. I then explored the banks and woods near a creek at the end of our road. I found many mushrooms, but I could tell that none of them were active, so I didn't disturb them.

Well, maybe this should be the "Official Georgia Drought and Weather Discussion Thread" because it hasn't been about Weilii for a long time. And despite the drought, I'm still finding them, so get the hell out there and look people, and quit bitching about the weather.

Maybe X-Mush is a bit more experienced then your narrowminded views on the particular subject. So far this thread has been ruined by noobs constantly complaining about the drought, yet the more experienced hunters are finding them fine. You wanna find mushrooms try a little dedication and less leeching peoples other patches.

WTF does that have to do with taking pictures to confirm finds? You should be proud of what you find, or is that "newb" behavior?

Question for the experienced...what would you say your ratio was for finding weilii in woods (like not much grass at all) vs. lawns and fields. Im thinking that this might would turn out a little better than grassy areas because of the moisture contained by leaves and debri. Im no expert but I dont think weilii HAS to have grass. I think it is probably just easier to see them. Right?

How bout searching the 2006-2005 threads, theirs tons of information. Perhaps instead of making dozens of inane posts asking for redundant questions to already answered questions posted years ago.
Incase you dont know certain members became turncoats on this community, they wanted free-tickets and free-rides, they raped patches angered and scared residents, trespassed and ultimately caused a complete scrutinization of this forum which made most veterans have to go underground.
I no longer hunt actives because of these certain individuals who will be refused to be named. However this has nothing to do with you or anything, but its the reason why we keep things so hush these days.
So please, enough of these noob questions, and frankly someone should lock this thread because its degenerated into a mudsling.

Look your questions can be answered by using the search option. You must obviously have had squirrels hibernating nuts in your head for the fact that you looked over every thread yet you insist on asking redundant questions here. Maybe you have a 2 minute attention span, im sorry for that.
And your right, I was once a noob, but i lurked months before i even registered and i didnt ask pointless questions that could be answered by utilizing a search option.
Someone shut this thread please, its already degenerated into monkeys slinging shit.

What a bountiful mound of mushies. Very nicely done. I was just sitting here laughing about how spoiled we were a few years ago with all the rain and how elusive finds like these have become. You've got a good patch there.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: Well at least a few people shared photos of the sacred weilii mushroom.. but some of your attitudes have to change if we ever want do another official weilii topic in the future. I learned about 6 years ago after eating my first dosage of weilii that it is the greatest shroom available in the southeastern United States. It is truly the flesh of God, and a mushroom of superior reasoning. This topic really went downhill quickly so I am locking it. I am just surprised not all of you understand the greatness of the weilii mushrooms message yet. Because that mushroom hit me like a lightning bolt every time I ate it, its message was so strong to me but for most of you you are not understanding it yet. It didn't rain much for a reason, and not all of you found them for a very good reason also. Maybe for some of you your luck will change next year. Maybe the weilii will find you instead of you finding the weilii.
