My First Cultivation

Hey guys, I'm going to be making my first batch soon (like within the month) and I have been reading like everything here that I can. I just had a few questions I wanted to ask some people who might be experienced cultivators.
I was planning on doing PF-Tek Method with a horse-poo bulk substrate. I read a few guides on how to pasteurize the HP but I was wondering what methods experienced people prefer. I read up on one method that included using your oven and an ovenbag, and of course the pillowcase method.
Also, I was wondering what is best to do once you have spread your substrate? Do you just set the cakes on it and leave it as is, or do you break the cakes up on top of the substrate?

you "case" your substrate... you put a layer of casing...layer of spawn (or PF-Cakes, rye etc) then another layer of casing (vermiculite/poo/peat etc) make sense?... kinda like a sandwich... you can also make a multi-layer sandwich... haha.. but yea... keep on researching as much as possible from now till then, and goodluck!

Break up the cakes and mix in to the poo. It'll grow thru faster and better, IMO.

I don't know what you're smoking Phreakr, but you don't put a casing layer on the bottom of the substrate/spawn at all. I have heard of putting a layer of vermiculite to help with moisture, but that theory was quickly shot down by RR
You just break up your cakes, put a layer of HPoo, then cake, HPoo, cake, until you run out, incubate for a week or two, when its fully colonized throw a casing layer on it (very thin), let it incubate for another few days until it starts coming thru, then put into the FC.
