I installed this earlier today and have been having fun playing around with it. The only thing that sucks is that I installed it on my amd64 laptop and have found that a lot of programs don't even support the version for amd64 processors. What a fucking pain in the ass. I love the OS, I just hope that bastards like adobe put out some support for amd64 and linux in general.

There is a Linux shop here in my town for some reason, and the pop here is like 16,000, I for some reason doubt he will do very well.
Linux is like XP - the virus's and shitty ad-aware. But you are right they coudl really work on compatibility.

Yeah that's one of the biggest problems with 64 bit processors. Lack of driver and software compatibility.
You probably already know this, but you can run the x86 Ubuntu with your 64bit cpu. You will then have all the compatibility of an x86 cpu. You just won't get that little speed advantage.

I run AMD64x2, and I really don't run into too many compatability issues. Then again, I use Debian Linux.

Where did you come up with this? Linux is one of the most secure OS out there. There is no adware, viruses, or popups. Mac OS X is base totally around the linux file system. They just added they own GUI. In large, linux is 100% stable and secure, unlike windows.

I've always had problems with Beryl so I can't tell you why for sure (though I suspect my problems are due to my crappy video card).
I have, however, been able to change the GUI appearance very easily in Gnome. I'm running in XP right now so I can't give you exact directions, but try looking for a "Themes" or "Window Decorations" or "Look and Feel" or something like that in the "System" button at the top of your desktop.
Check out http://www.gnome-look.org/ for more themes.

Linux is an excellent OS, plain and simple. It is less susceptible to virus', adware, malware, etc, but this has nothing to do with the OS itself.
Less people use Linux, than Windows, thus it is not targeted nearly as much.
Read the god damn wiki article on it, then you can talk shit about either OS.
Here's the comparison:
Windows vs. Linux
