I used a very high concentration (1.5%, like 1l of 3% H2O2 and 1l of H2O ), but that might be unnecessary. I have to do more experiments... I have to mention that bacterial contamination is hard to notice on cardboard.

hey zeronio
i am not in advanced forum so i just saw your post
i have done this with boiled water and cardboard, nothing more. no nutrients no anything.
imho, its the safest method to send myc over the snail-mail this is how i am gonna send you the myc we were talking. the agar plates took a post walk and got contaminated lol lol so i am gonna send you on cardboard
actually noone cares if it has any nutrients if this method is for transfering myc. the only thing you care is to send it healthy. its so easy then to throw it in a jar of rye or to put it in a petri dish with agar as normal.

I used this for a short period of time when I ran out of agar. It's major drawback is that bacterial contaminants are hard to see.

Let's try it. It should be OK.

Agar has smooth surface and bacterial colonies are easier to spot. I had contaminated cardbord plates that seemed OK, but the smell wasn't.

I once tried using beer as an agar ingredient and my agar wouldn't grow shit. Some beers contain powerful preservatives. German beers are preservative free but cardboard agar seems a waste of gut deutch Bier. Brewing your own may be the way to go.

When you said you innoculated the cardboard...
Did you rub spors over it? or did you inject the cardboard with a spore syringe?
How long did you pressure cook the cardboard?
I've always PDA or MEA, but this method seems easir and will produce less contaminants

I didn't try to germinate spores on it - I used this when I ran out of agar and transfered mycellium from agar plates. Rush Wayne (peroxide manual) proposes method of germinating spores on cardboard without beer (& without peroxide of course) - it has less nutrients this way so there is less chance of contamination. As soon as you get some growth you transfer mycellium to peroxidated plates.
I'm quite surprised that this thread still gets attention. I will try it again and make a pictorial guide to it.

I used cardboard successfully to germinate woodlover spores. Sterilise cradbroard. cool. use forceps to touch moist cardoard to print and place face up on peroxide agar - works great.

Could you use beer instead of water in making cakes?

Im currently trying Karo soaked cardboard as a variation of this technique. Ive been innoculating from a liquid culture (Karo + water) that I made, but it hasnt shown any growth yet. I will keep you posted on the success/failure.

in my experience, the cardboard tek works better if you moisten the cbd with sterile water, without any karo, beer or other nutes, like this

no, that would defy the purpose of this tek. you germinate the spores on a tiny piece of cbd, which is placed on peroxidated mea

I've seen pictures from Psilocybe Mushrooms around the World, and maybe GGMM (I forget, I'll find the URL's for them) that show p. cubensis fruiting off of newspaper, works pretty well
