Wearing shoes alleviates suffering; Tv also. I think marijuana relieves suffering.

On the alleviation of suffering one may say that wearing shoes increases production. That is something that can not be said of TV. Therefore TV is a worse addiction than either marijuana or shoes.

One may retort that 'Fear' increases production more than marijuana or shoes, but an experienced man will agree I think, that shoes are more practical than 'Fear'.

Who said TV was good? I think most people here would agree that TV is detrimental to your health.
Shoes on the other hand don't really have the potential for escapism (especially high heels lulz pun) or unwanted mental effects. If you can't see how pot can be used as self medication to hide problems in life like boredom and apathy, I don't know what to tell you.
I have nothing against people who smoke pot, but it's silly to say smoking pot is the same as wearing shoes. I would have had the same attitude as Booby 2 years ago though so I know where he's coming from.

difficulties arise when the plant is looked upon as a commodity, IMO,
a consumer item, to be used by a consumer culture..
in this frame of mind the drug is merely an intoxicant, rather than a tool to be used for mind expansion, learning, and self-development.
the rest sort of happens with time.. use becomes regular, routine, a habit, a dependency, and in worst cases even an addiction.
this applies to many other consciousness-altering devices: television use plays out in the exact same fashion if a person's interaction with it becomes fixed and regular.
with these things it's very important to maintain spontaneity (as paradoxical as that may sound), as well as to have a clear goal or motivation behind your decision.
what do you wish to achieve after you hit that bong?
are you going to enhance your creativity and work on your piece of art?
loosen your mind(ing) and sit down quietly in meditation?
sharpen your concentration and do some heart healing, body work, yoga, metaprogramming?
ask yourself if the reason you have to smoke this plant lies on your path towards self-realization and growth?
pot is a tool.
if you have something you can use this tool on, then yes, use it!
but if there is nothing, then just simply put the tool down.

As much as TV or wearing shoes?
I agree. I haven't watched TV in years and I don't wear shoes everyday by any means, especially in summer.

Wow what a great post!
"have a clear goal or motivation behind your decision."
that's a commonly ignored principle for taking mind-altering substances

So here's the thing, I absolutely hate, detest, and abhor washing dishes. Would like to never do them again but of course it must be done everyday. Getting stoned first makes it the tiniest bit bearable.
I prefer doing mundane tasks stoned.

To get an overview of myself, to put it simply.
On ground I am only able to see what is before my feet. Corners are unknowns, hills are horizons, structures are obfuscations.
Only by shifting my perception to that of a bird, can I clearly see where the corners turn, where the hills lead, and where the sun really sets.
Hopefully soon I'll start taking my altered states into the floatation tank.

nothing should be.
something just is.
and if it doesn't suit us, then we can try change it,
if we choose to do so.

oh and yes they are!

I think it totally depends on the person and the reason for using pot.
I've found that pot can be extremely relaxing, a good destressor, a way to bond with friends, a sleep aid, something to calm the stomach, something to inspire creativity and focus (I get super focused on one thing a lot of the time after I've smoked), something to bring on an appetite, etc. Good stuff. But, it can really easily be abused. I used to smoke it way too much, espescially before class/work. I hated going to class, and going to class high made the experience less miserable. But that's a bad pattern to get into :/ But that's not a problem with pot, it's a problem with life patterns mostly.
So basically, using pot is good. Abusing it isn't.
