Lib look a likes?

I apologize for not posting pics but if I must....so be it.
Cap: caramel brown on tip, fading to light brown on bottom with very slight black ring at the base of the cap. conical...the cap seems too large to be liberty caps Stem: White - slightly wavy Gills: Very black and the black rubs off on your fingers. Attached. Habitat: Growing in a fairly hard patch of soil, there was moss there too....there were a lot of them....maybe 12. Spore print: Very black. Bruising: Just about none....I haven't waited longer than 20 minutes tho.
If I am forgetting anything remind me....the most important thing I noticed was that they did not have the classic nipple on the tip of the cap. Does a lib have to have a nipple? Or do they just come and go?

hard to say without a pic. If you're thinking they're coprinus, you're probably right... or another closely related genus.
whatever the case, I wouldn't attempt ingestion...

I get very similar looking mushrooms around here that are coprinus.
Coprinellus micaceus as well I think. If your mushrooms looks similar to those in the picture then my guess is that it's that. I think lib caps should have more of a button-nipple at the point of the cap?

The one pictured above looks a bit small and frail to be a Coprinus micaceus, I think it is Parasola auricoma.

Alan: I don't think it's near being mature. I'm pretty sure they can't survive the Texas sun and heat, so they grow in the night when it's cool only to be little pins and then get killed off in the day before maturing fully.
