they're probably abhorting. they will grow a bit and then start doing weird stuff. abhorts are fine to eat and actually have more of your friends the magic alkaloids then their fully developed brothers, proportionately. this is normal.

You got the bacterial blotch my brother. I think the main cause is humidity too high/insufficient air exchange, but I will do a check in TMC for you.
Basically you have a bacteria that is parasitizing your caps. It doesn't seem to be incredibly detrimental, but you deffinatly don't want to take prints from anything in that terrerium untill it is sterilized and a new batch is started. It will fuck with you during the colonization period if you try.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Bacterial Blotch?!

That doesn't sound very good. It only affected a few shrooms. Two aborts, that I tossed, and one mature mushroom. I cut away the yucky areas from the cap and it is now in my drying chamber. Should I just toss it? I'm guessing the stem is OK (nothing looks wrong) right?

In my own opinion (someone really needs to research this) caps don't compare to stems in terms of potency (their soul functin is to reproduce, they're all spores...), so why not just toss the cap and not have to worry if you're consuming whatever is on them....

Yeah, I just tossed the cap. I hope that this won't happen to anymore of my mushrooms. Has anyone else experienced this bacteria on the caps of their shrooms? mycrofile, you said that excess humidity could be the cause of the bacteria but wouldn't it occur on more than just those few shrooms? I harvested some very large healthy shrooms from the same casing that showed no sign of infection on the cap.

air exchange is good from air pump...and humisity is high (as i see from the sides of the tank)

Fitler, yes too high humidity is often a cause. Well not exactly a cause, but it is a favorable condition for it as is stagnant air. No it wouldn't neccessarily be on all caps. Maybe your humidity is just a little too high. Perhaps it is only able to attack the less vigorous shrooms due to the conditions not being absolutly favorable to it. Yes, just about everyone sees it from time to time and it is not a big problem. I would still not recomend printing any cap in that terrerium if you can help it. Chances are just too high that you would have a print contaminated with bacteria and it might become more of a problem the more you inadvertently cultivate it.
Ar, the white on caps is usually mycelium. You should be able to recognize it as such. Apparently mycelium on the caps is most often associated with too high humidity. It rarely has anything to do with air exchange. Oddly the same thing seems to happen at extremely low humidity occasionaly as if the cap were sprouting mycelium to search for moisture. All in all it usually just a sign of too much humidity but is rarely a problem. It would be a good idea to lower you humidity slightly before you get any of the other problems associated with high humidity, such as bacterial blotch.
peaces.
