"I hate your posts, but I cannot wait to read them so that I can get all pissed off and self-righteously indignant!"
Does it get any more neurotic than this?

Remember the famous Pedophile thread from back in the day. That had hundreds of posts. Hue posted his famous shotgun post. Now that was fun.

I am guilty of seeking out posters I know have the ability to keep me entertained with a good back-and-forth, even when I already have an idea of what the problems I'm going to find with them might be. I have to stop myself sometimes, especially when it starts to feel too obvious. Eventually it does become kind of cruel.

Trolling is when someone pretends to believe something they know everyone else will object to, in order to solicit lulz.
The term comes from a style of fishing, whereby people would shine lights into the water at night in order to draw the fish in behind the boat... or something along those lines. Anyway, the analogy seems pretty reasonable to me.
Trolling is not when someone posts a message on any given topic that happens to annoy you.

The shotgun has been retired...

Not quite.

Trolling is posting with the intention of stirring things up, but not necessarily posting from a stance which one does not hold in actuality.

People listen to music to feel emotions (they vary from anger to love)
Does this make everybody that listens to music neurotic?
Is anger a bad thing? Are emotions a bad thing?
