Rain is good! The best I've seen grow outside was right after some nice rains.

mushrooms love water... if it's in a tree covered area (which it should be) you're not in any danger, you're in JUST right conditions.

well the rain may wash away the top layer and expose it to pinning conditions.
You could cover if you want, but I'd let nature take it's course myself. What better time for it to fruit than right after a good rain when all that water is evaporating, giving you some nice humidity?

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I have two questions:
1) Considering the fact mushrooms have grown in outdoor conditions for as long as I can remember, are they totally defenseless against rain?
2) Putting a cardboard box over said fungus may protect them from the precipitation's force due to gravity, but what is to be done about the rise in the moisture in the water table? Won't that change regardless of a corrugated layer of protection?
Or am I totally missing the point? (I'm a newbie, take it easy on me).

I know that!!! I was exaggerating basically I was saying that if there's no hurricane there's no need to protect them!

Agreed. Rain is good, regardless of how far colonized the substrate is. The best outdoor grows are set it and forget it. RR
