amazonian Vs. amazonian xtc
    #7426891 - 09/19/07 03:57 AM (16 years, 4 months ago)

Are the 'Amazonian xtc' and the 'Amazonian' strain really the same mushroom?? I'm very confused - until 2 days ago I've heard only of the Amazonian strain and was ready to order a print - now I don't know anymore - I'd like to order an xtc-print  if they're not the same (the thing is, I can't find it anywhere, only the Amazonian) ...
Please help!

first off this should be asked in the strain thread at the top of this forum...

secondly, get amazon. amazon xtc sounds like nothing but a sales pitch although i could be wrong.. more important to the outcome of your grow is conditions not strain.

If this simple statement could just be plastered all over the site in huge, gaudy, flashing letters, people would learn more from it than from all the Q&A we could ever do.

There are differences between strains, but they are subtle. If you have Amazonian in one hand and Amazonian XTC or Amazonian FSADFEWFEFEW or Amazonian FGSFDS in the other hand, I assure you they are both the same, or else that the mystery syringe is full of EQ or TX or whatever the hell they had lying around in stock.

If the spore vendors all decided to screw with us one day, and switch all the cube spores around, we'd never, ever find out about it. Isn't that a great thought? Enjoy, and good luck.

well, penis envy is pretty much detectable, but other then that, they have probably been selling us the same spores with different names since the inception of sporebanks/vendors.

I guess I might've mis-represented what I meant in my excitement, as always. I'm not strictly saying strains don't exist, mind. There *are* real genetic differences between strains. They're just not that big of a deal usually, and they are variable, and I don't feel that people (and vendors) really have them catalogued and described accurately or fully. A lot of the strains out there are very, very, similar--near-identical--but due to differences between grows or even trip experiences (man, those are reliable) we've started making up distinctions. I think of any given strain of spores as the shroom equivalent of a family, rather than a major sub-division or ethnicity.

Now, the PE strain is easily identifiable because it's a big ole family of inbred mutants, and we love them that way. Everything else? I've experimented, and I'm not convinced the distinctions are worth worrying about, beyond what seems to be some minor variability in colonization speed and fruiting behavior. Again though, it's not enough that I can verifiably say "This behaves different and I'm 100% sure" with honesty... I just think people dupe themselves and are duped by vendors in all of the excitement over their project.

But hey, it's all good. There's my rant, maybe I should just cut-and-paste it in the future.
