my question is- i need to give this thing a little shake everyday right? (i have glass pieces in it)
how long do i shake it for? just until its fully colonized?

I usually give mine a good vortex spin once a day, and sometimes twice. Shake it until it doesn't appear to grow anymore, then fridge it.

shaking is only used when its colonizing, and like thrill said, a little vortex, dont shake the living hell out of it i wouldnt shake it before im about to suck up LC, it would be a pain in the ass trying to get mycelium while its swirling

I give it a good shake maybe every few days or so so it doesn't get too thick to suck into syringes, after its in the fridge it doesn't really need to be shaken until just before use because it shouldn't really be in the fridge until it is done growing so you just need to shake it to break it up when it clumps together,Broken glass helps ALLOT

with my last lc i didn't have any agitator in it and there was a thick chunk of myc in it that i couldn't break up by swirling so i put on a glove and alcoholed the finger tip, put it over the hole and shook. i did this once before it was done and then again before i extracted some. i then shot up some jars and the myc looked healthy but there was a rusty color right at all the inoc. points. i was trying to figure out what kind of contam it was, having never seen anything like it before. i discarded the jars and the lc and on the lc lid right at the needle hole was..... rust. i transfered rust from lc to substrate. apparently

Most of my jar lids are rusty and they never seem to cause a problem
