he doesn't even check to see if its lite, he just torches it anyway.

dude yeah....and when i was a starter i WAS that guy...
i have become very very good at using the lighter as much as needed and thats IT
i mainly smoke alone now too
id prefer to smoke with others tho...i get higher

I have never heard of that complaint. If I want a thick hit I will light it up. If you dont like it dont pass me the bowl.
edit- I always forget, you are probably talking about dank, or dro right? In my click we never smoke the expensive stuff so who cares if you roast a bowl, cause the bowl only costs about a dollar.

torching the bowl every time is not necessary. if the bowl is still cherry and you want a thick hit, just pull hard and make sure your lips are sealed around the bowl and the carb is covered. torching it every time is wasteful.
edit: ahh.. well if you smoke the schwag then i suppose it doesn't matter. i personally pay 50-65 an 8th, and would rather not waste any.

yeah a bowl here would run you more like $5
you can light a bowl up and have it not go out until its kashed. and believe me it makes it last at least 2x longer.
its like, everytime i see a flame thats one less hit for me and the guy didn't chip nothing in, in the first place so...

I have been smoking for 10 years (jeasus...) and never heard that using a lighter instead of the cherry is wasteful. Greedy maybe, but it doesnt waste anything.
edit - well, big hits are intrinsically wasteful. So, it would be wasteful. Not because smoke is bieng wasted, but your lungs can absorb it all with a big hit.

i generally try to not even let the flame itself touch the weed. i'll pull the tip of the flame in to lick the pot a bit by sucking the flame to it, then quickly release the flame and suck big to fill the cherry out a bit. and i always, always, always leave at least half a bowl of green for whoever i'm smoking with if i've got the first hit.
i dunno, maybe i'm just too worried being a polite polite, efficient smoker.

No worries, I just like thinking through peoples claims. It does get annoying to others for sure.
I think that if you cherry the bowl up then you will waste because of the smoke coming up off the bowl. But this will happen no matter how you get the cherry going (sucking or lighting).
Also, I think that taking big hits is wasteful because your lungs absorb a smaller percentage of the THC if filled with smoke then if there is just a little smoke. If you take a big hit, more THC will get exhaled and not absorbed into the bloodstream. I can only guess how much weed I wasted as a kid off of the gravity bong

also off of blunts man....when i first started smoking everyday it was the summer after graduating high school and we rolled blunts pretty much every time we smoked...i did that all throughout my first two years in college too for the most part...
and my god i cant even imagine all the wasted THC i have seen...soooo many times people slowly exhale thick smoke from hitting the blunt...sooooo fuckin wasteful...now that i have cut down a fuck ton on smoking, when i smoke a blunt i get soooo much higher...if it is a dank blunt i will definitely start having troubles driving at night

YES. Or those people that feel the need to set the whole fucking bowl aflame when they light it. I'm like it's already dry and crumbled. It lights well. No need to go scorching it.

I dunno, I guess where it's at. Some places, it's "Oh you're scorching it, that's wasteful!" and in others, it's "Let's smoke some weed! Do it however!". I guess noo one's smoking it like it's crack here, so no one cares how you smoke it.

I usually cap the bowl with my lighter to extinguish it before passing it on. It's a force of habit mostly, but I do that to keep it from cherrying, so it's only burning up when people are actually taking the hit.
The people I smoke with, i've never had problems with them torching the shit out of the bowl with the lighter, so capping it and relighting it everytime isn't a big deal. Most of the people I toke with usually cap it as well.
The only pipe that I don't usually cap is my chillum. That pipe gets treated like a glass blunt or a joint, especially when it starts cherrying.

Yea I can't stand people like that. Kind of reminds me of the guy who no matter how many times you tell him takes a perfectly rolled joint or blunt and smashes it between his fingers and takes the biggest gayest hit he possibly can handing you back a limp crushed roach with one side burned all the way down.

I think stoner etiquette is freakishly ironic.
Who cares about a camper? What's so bad about wanting to take a big hit, or failing to notice that a cherry is still going? even fucking up rotation isn't so bad in my book.
I just think it's elitist propaganda to create the illusion that there is some vast difference between the stoner elites and the "noob-bitches", when really you're both sitting around getting high...and if stoner etiquette is such a big deal, what are you doing sharing with some douche anyways?

Yea man, when I moved people would like doing circles with the lighter and making it all one big cherry... I catch myself relighting it sometimes, so I dont really like to bitch about it when someone else does it.
