Can you give us more info than "it is slow".
Most likely it is on your end.

Well, if you want me to get technical I might as well... The shroomery is probably running off of a free host that delivers limited bandwidth or has a bottleneck when many people are all logged onto the boards. Sometimes the page loads slow, or it takes awhile to get from place to place. You get the ie "hang" where the bar doesnt completely go. My connection doubtful but possible. Theshroomery just has a bad ping. Iv'e tested it on several mechines running on a T1 with a fiber network or my home cable 1.5mbit. Maybe its just the distance from your host to my location.

well a ran a ping on the host server from my location from dos and i get 50~250 ns which is acceptable. But the boards just hang on occasions. And this is a non peak time for cable. and other pages load just fine. just the boards load slow. I think its a scripting error on the page or my browser that is creating the hang up. Windows has alot of evil ways to fuck up performance on your machine. so if your loading good on 56k maybe its here. but nothing I can do to fix that then. hmm. never connected good to .org webhost sites.

i average 287ms sending 32 bytes. it should make no difference at all whether you are connecting to a .org or a .com or a .net or whatever. if you were connecting to a .uk or a .uranus or something then you might experience some slow down. get linux on yr box or something. what version of windows r u running? get updates/patches? your statement that the shroomery just has bad ping is misleading. i think ping is a relative measurement. it measures the time it takes a given number of bytes to travel to a server and back to your computer. so both your computer and the server have a hand in the final reading.

Actually we bought our own server, worth over $2000 USD and its a top notch machine.. We have a speedy site, since the upgrade we've gotten nothing but compliments on speed..
So it must be something on your end.

do a tracer route if there is a bottle neck somewhere between your ISP and theshroomery, you would show lag and a traceroute would show where it is.....
this server is fast......really

Its my location. Got a box thats got firewire, water cooled, partitioned drive with win 2k pro and its all scsi. amd 1.7gig overclocked. 1gig sd with a k7 dragon board. its not my comp. I have updated patches. Using a ping is the only way to relitivily judge your speed. Some sites I just get crappy ping when alot of people are on boards. and it was only the board section that was lagging... There is a bottlekneck somewhere. lack of bandwidth. Because i was running 1882kb/s on dslreports.com and pcpitstop.com when I was lagging on your site..

The Shroomery box (a dual AMD 1800+/15,000 RPM SCSI system) is hosted on a multi-megabit line. If you are only talking about the slowness of the "Main Index" then that is because it has to count new threads/replies for every forum and we have ~500,000 rows in the database. Try using the "Mark all read" feature.

i came up with other things that are just interesting to know.
If you watch the hit counter the shroomery gets some 150K hits a day, im pretty sure more then half are just refreshes. How many unique hits a day does the shroomery get, and how much data does the shroomery spit out a day.

AMD Socket A Thunderbird 1gig (1.7overclocked) SY-K7V DRAGON 200/266MHz System Interface Speed AMD Socket-A based VIA KT266 ATX Motherboard D DR266 SDRAM R AID controller on board A udio on board, with 6-chanel Hardware Audio G raphic, Universal AGP Pro slot O verclocking, setup FSB by 1MHz increment N etwork, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
ATX case with 1gig DDR I got 2 hardrives. 1 is an external Western Digital 120gig FireWire drive with 400Mb/s transfer and an internal Fujitsu Silent Strike 15,000RPM with Ultra dma 160.
The case is liquid cooled with a Blizzard ThunderBird: Shooting Star I got a SB Live card, nothing special with Altec lan speakers. All in wonder Raedon 7500 vid card with the RV200 chipset(but no IEE1394 (Firewire) port Its got a core clock at 260Mhz and the DDR mem is at 360Mhz
And to top it off a good ol LCD Hercules Prophetview PV920 17" monitor.

UT wouldnt take advantage of the duel CPU's and lack of a good 3d card would put a big hit on the FPS.
My box: Athlon XP 1700+, 256mb 2100 DDR, GeForce3 Ti200@500, u160 15,000RPM fujitsu hard drive.
Runs UT perfectly at 1280x1024 with over 100FPS.
now quake3 on the other hand would make use of both CPU's but without a 3d card q3 would refuse to run.

ArisEve: again i must apologize wont go into detail.... read the PM
Pretty nice box, i found some reviews of the NV30, they claim 2x the speed of the ti4600 and xbox chip and 4x FSAA without a preformence hit. as well as dx 8.1 and 8x agp, those are gonna be some killer cards

Well I made my mistake with the raedon. I should of stayed with Nvidia. However they didn't release the g4 along with a good copy of the detonator 4 driver untill I purchased my card so I'm sol. As for UT. UT is a crappy game for checking performance. Even quake 3 is outdated for any type of benchmark test. Only OS that will even recognize duel processor setup is win2k or better. And amd doesnt perform well with quake 3. Since the N geforce 4 and beyond with their driver Intel hits hard and with the full utilization of p4 and a good card.. it still is blowing amd away for fps... but then again. athalon is just now talking about releasing the 1300+mhz processor. proving speed is not all you need for a beast of a machine. If you want to find some good games that really show if your vid card can perform try using "3D Mark 2001 Se" "GIants" "max payne" or "aquanox". then again.. just a suggestion.

check out anandtech's artical on UT2003 CPU and GPU scalling, its the artical to read if your looking for a new video card. .
>> athalon is just now talking about releasing the 1300+mhz processor.
AMD has been beyond 1.3g for a good while, the Athlon XP 2200+ runs at 1.8Ghz, i think the duron is stuck at 1.3g until they roll out the new .13u chips though.
I dunno if it still stands (read: i doubt it still stands) but for my systems class (cpu, gpu) i ran the 36th fastst, for my rig its the 256mb ram holding me back.
i wont comment on intel or the p4's other then, i wouldnt suggest going with a intel solution to anyone.

I like the way intel works with the geforce cards in terms of performance. As for the 1300. That was a typo. I didnt know athalon was anywhere past 1700 core clock yet. Because I was comparing to the intels 2.2 or so vs the amd and amd can still outperform. Yea those new cards do like pretty sweet but the retail price just for a basic geforce 4 is near 400bucks.. those cards with 8x agp has got to be near 500+... I"m a heavy gamer but I dont know if I would invest that much into anything. Another thing that is looking good for Intel is the fact that Rambus is comming back and they have an interface on the boards now that actually might make it work. Rambus is a sure advantage over any DDR if it is working properly.
